A FEELING FOR SCIENCE The Science Field Club held rhe rirle for rhe iorgesr and mosr energetic club on campus, Ar rheir weekly meerings rhey hove planned numer ous rrips and ocrivines, which exposed students to interesting pieces end ex penences that hove a bearing on sci ence and provide an opportunity to build comraderie between SFC mem bers While SFC ' s onnuol trips repeated themselves, some new trips were od ded to their yearly schedule SFC mode their annual trip to Corolino Is land Marine Institute on October 22, where students enjoyed the beoury of hiking and snorkling in this tranquil environment Roppeling, wildflower Judy, and camping at Joshuo Tree Notional Monument in April gave rhe members who attended a chance ro learn about end oppreciare rhe de serr SFC toured rhe Trono Chemical Planr, and rhe Merropoliron Water Dis- trict Lake Perns Project They also wenr ro Loserium end severol gome shows Their final curing was a four day trip to Yosemite on Moy 12, The rrips and rours roken by SFC ore scien rific and social learning experiences only available ro Rowland srudenrs rhrough rhis club. Beyond rhe rrips, rhere is a deeper feeling for science instilled in SFC members; two students whose inter esrs reached further in the field of- tended the Umvetsiry of Florida during rhe summer rhrough the Notional Sci ence Foundotion Research Program, where rhey were oble ro take col lege lob courses and work wirh pro- fessional scienrisrs Also, seven sru denrs from Rowlond were selecred from among rwo hundred oppliconrs ro be summer inrerns or Corolino Is- land Marine Insrirure The Science Field Club gives sru denrs on opporruniry ro see and do science relored ocrivines unovoiloble in rhe classroom due ro budger cuts , nored John Korns, SFC advisor It also allows students to gam a feeling of fellowship wirh srudenrs of similar in teresrs and to be around science teachers in a different setting thon school 20 Science Field

Now in rheir fifth year as o group they hove proven once ogoin to be breed aporr by their porticipo tion in festivals oil over rhe Southland Ir is more than just singing,- it ' s o full time commirrmenr , soys Mr. Conron zoro These srudenrs hove learned responsibiliry for their own affairs be cause of the heovy demand for ex cellence These 24 students coordinote sing ing and dancing routines in their per formances and ore in demand by the community ' s service groups Their tuxedo look enhonced rhe effect of sight and sound they present so well 22 1
