SENIORS The seniors are looking forward to the future with hope and anticipation . There have been many firsts around Rossville, but theSenior Class of 1962 is the last class to make the spring trip to Washington D.C., and New York. The money-making projects in the past four years to make this trip possible were: dances, sup- pers. magazine sales, paper drives, class plays, Jun- ior flop, and the sale of ice cream and cokes at all home games during the 1960-61 school year. They have worked together continually and have been look- ing forward to graduation with great eagerness . Many of the seniors are planning to go ahead with their education after high school graduation . Some have al- ready been admitted to colleges and universities, and others are still looking for a type of training that will fulfill their needs. All the seniors are striving to do their best for their community and their country. MR. WOLF Sponsor MR. UNDERCLASSMEN Here are the underclassmen, who, like most school children, are full of mischief, curiosity, fun, and a desire for knowledge. From these future graduates of Rossville High School will come doctors, teachers, farmers, housewives, and many other businessmen and prominent citizens. These boys and girls do not goto school just to learn mathematics and science but to learn how to respect and associate with others. School teaches the honor of being a good citizen and the enjoyment of the companionship with others. At Rossville every student is given an equal opportunity to achieve his goals. The remainder is left for the student to decide. If he has the ambition, Rossville has the faculty and facilities to make the student's future a prosperous one. Yes, these are the citizens of tomorrow. Each year they are taking another step toward success. The seniors make their exit, and the underclassmen move to a higher rank. May all their hopes and dreams come true in the years to come. So let's look back over the past school year and evaluate the extracurricular activities made available for students at R.H.S. The Band and Chorus present many programs ena- bling musically talented students to display their ability to sing or play an instrument. For students whose primary concern is for others, the Sunshine Society works to aid people in need of a helping hand. Members of the Latin Club share a common goal-- a bigger 'n better Latin Banquet. The preparation for this gala dinner calls on members' imagination and initiative. Those who are gifted writers turn out interesting and informative school papers as members of the High Spot Staff. The cheering performances of the block section are a result of their great interest in basketball. The pep Club has backed the Hornets at games home and away. Because of their keen interest in home economics, many girls have joined the new Future Homemakers of America Club formed this year. The Rossville Future Farmers of America Chapter offers excellent training and challenging competition to those boys who are interested in various aspects of agriculture. ROSSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BAND The high school band was very busy this year as they played at the State Fair, Band Day at Purdue, all home basketball games, Christmas program, and the County Music Festival. The band officers are as follows: president, Jean Ward; vice-president, Jim Wolf; secretary, Georgia Catron; treasurer, Janet Wilson; and librarian Tom Kidd Circus Magician Music Director—Albert Canine Hold that tiger!1 McClures drug store Rossville, Indiana Shively Bolinger McDaniels Fines Newly organized stage band Silverthom Fingerle High school twirlers--STANDING left to right: Diane Mossberg, Joyce Payne, Georgia Catron; center, Joan Kemp. On Sunshine Initiation Day seniors carried out their plans for a rough initiation, sopho- mores gave a humorous style show at the SSS meeting to entertain the freshman girls, and the juniors planned an impressing dress initiation to be in the evening. The Rossville chapter sold candy, held a post-game dance, collected clothing for needy people, contributed to the Riley Fund, sent delegates to the district and state conventions , planned the Christmas convocation and gave Christmas presents to the teachers, cooks, and janitors of Rossville Consolidated Schools to show their thoughts of Others. The SSS officers are president, Darryl McQuern; vice-president, Marilyn Hodgen; corre - sponding secretary, Janice Collins; treasurer, Judith Emens; and recording secretary, Linda Kamstra. The Latin Club Banquet was the highlight of the club's activities although the initiation of nineteen freshmen into- the club and the Easter convocation which the club planned also caused much interest. The Latin Club officers are Consul, Ralph Calvert; Pro-Consul, Connie Good; Scriba, Gwen Roth; and Quaestor, Geraldine Baker. Initiation What a ratio! Formed during the 1958-'59 basketball season, the Pep Club has grown each year and now has approximately one hundred members which cheer the team on to victory at all home games a few of the away games. Under the direction of Mr. Miller and the varsity cheerleaders, the block holds regular practice and sponsors various money-making projects. LAFAYETTE RADIO SUPPLY, INC. 408 E. It not only provides a time when they can let off excess en- ergy, but also teaches them how to get along with others. The grade schools have been doing many new and different activities this year. They have learned how to use the encyclopedias, and as a result, a whole volume can seldom be found on the shelves at one time. Television has been a main interest of third graders, who have been viewing science programs and have been following along with projects and experiments. Well stocked libraries have made much more inter- esting special reports, and fill the children's spare time with fiction and non-fiction stories. The grades publish their own newspaper, have a hobby club, and have presented pageants to celebrate many of the holidays this year. GRADE SIX STUDENTS GAIN EXPERIENCE BY PUBLISHING A NEWSPAPER J. Sports play an important part in the lives of the stu- dents at Rossville. Those participating in the dif- ferent sporting events are able to achieve recogni- tion by doing their best. They get to know their teammates better; they learn to work together as a team; they come in contact with other players from other schools. They also begin to realize the value of good sportsmanship--knowing how to be a good winner and also a good loser. The Hornet fans watched with great interest the coaching methods employed by the new athletic director, Mr. Marshall Koontz. Sporting excitement reached an all time high when the co-operating Hornets upset a mighty Jeff of La- fayette team. Excitement is the key word at a school sporting event. May this excitement and sportsman- ship of the athletes and student body always prevail at Rossville.
