Dennis McDonald, senior and outstanding tennis player this year, was the first man on the Varsity Tennis Squad. He was exceptional as both a singles and doubles man. Dennis is a two year Varsity letterman. The Varsity team was a strong con- tender for the league champion- ship. in Jeff Heubne r, Outstanding Trackman this year, has been out for track all of his four years at Rosemead. This year he was Captain of the champion Panther Bee Track Team. Jeff's best times this year were 13.6 seconds in the 220 yard low hurdles, 9.0 flat in the 70 yard high hurdles, and 6'1 in the ' high jump. .- wwf , W A 4, -'J . Dave Meyer, outstanding wrestler this year, was defeated only once during the duel meets of the Varsity Wrestling team. The team's highest scorer, Dave, a Junior, placed sixth at the league finals. Terry McElligott is a three year Varsity letterman and this is the second year that he has been chosen Outstanding Swimmer. Terry was undefeated in High School competition, only to be defeated at the C.l.F. finals, where he placed fourth and fifth. Terry also placed first at the Junior Olympics, and finshed third fastest, in his age group, at the Yukon. He is an outstanding candidate for this year's High School All-American.

Quitstaindilrm A-lr' lletes .1 i l l , n i 1 l l The outstanding football player this year, Joe Cortez, senior, became the first Rosemead High football player to be honored by the C.l.F., being named to the third team. Joe gained 1058 yards rushing and passing this Year. He was also honored on the All-District, All-League, and All San Gabriel Valley teams. He was the M6st.Valuable Player last year and again this year. He was also selected captain of his Varsity Foot- ball team. 88 Senior, Buddy Barker, outstand- ing basketball player, paced the Panther cagers in scoring an average of 15 points per game in league play cl-uring the 1959- 1960 season. He was chosen to be on the All-League first team honored at the Temple City Tournament. This year's Varsity Captain, Buddy, was also named to the All-San Gabriel Valley second team. Joe Cortez, senior and four year Varsity letterman, has been selected as outstanding baseball player. Joe played short stop and also was a very good pitch- er for 1960. At the time of this writing he was leading his team mates in batting, having hit home runs in three consecutive games. Joe is indeed a good college prospect, being Varsity Baseball captain.
