Quittsteinding Dveimei Sirudients Connie Ensign so ei si Each year the Drama Department selects two students who, during their years at Rosemead High School, have dis- played outstanding interest and enthusi- asm by participation in o-ur drama pro- ductions. In choosing the winners, this year, Connie Ensign and Doug Smith, special consideration was given, not necessarily to acting ability, but to in- terest in many ot the behind-the-scenes tasks so necessary to a dramatic pro- duction, such as direction and publicity. .5 Doug Smith These were three of the trophies given to the winners in different c tegories of the Variety Show. 1 Orchesis proudly exclaim over the trophy they have iust won for Sportsmahship. This is the act with which the Sunbeams won an award as the best curtain-act. The tenth annual Variety Show, Dreamsville , pre- sented at the El Monte District Auditorium on Dec- ember ll, 1959, was a huge success. Over 150 RHS students participated in the show in one of the many club or vocal group acts. Dreamsville was sponsored by National Thespians under the direction of Mr. Ernest Mauk and members Connie Ensign and Doug Smith acted as masters of cere- mony. The evening's entertainment reached its climax with the presentation of the well-deserved trophies. Recipients of these awards were: Sports- manship, Orchesis, Theme, Spinsters, Originality, Sagaths, and Humor, Hi-Y.

Those in the cast were: Mrs. Savage, Sandi Jackson: her three children-Lilly Bell, Kris Gabrielson, Samuel, Mike DeCarbo, and Titus, Buddy Barker. Guests with Mrs. S were, Fairy May, Bonita Flowers, Florence, Donna Sisley, Feff, Tom Akers, Miss Willie, Dolly Snelling, Mrs. Paddy, Donna Perkins, and Hannibal, Lowell Huddleston. Emmet was played by Doug Smith. Peter Aschwanden, school artist, success- fully designed programs and posters seen around campus prior to presentation of the play. Egads!! She's had the bonds in that confounded bear all the time! Presented this year as the llth annual All- School Play was, The Curious Savage. It was the first school production directed by the new drama instructor, Mr. Lee Blatt- ner. All who attended the play, held the night of April T, thought as did Connie En- sign, production stage manager, that it was fabulous, The play tells the story of Mrs. Savage, a widow, who is sent to a rest home linsane asyluml by her three devoted children after Mrs. S takes SlO0,000,000 out of the Savage Estate for her own pur- poses. The youngsters think she might be mentally unbalanced. This rollicking farce continues as the children try to get the money back. Melle mas
