Under the clrection of a top-ranking coaching staff, headed by Mr. Bill Sims, the male portion of our student body, better than 900 boys, experience a variety of sports activities. Among these activities are: football, basebal, handball, soccer, basketball, swimming, wrestling and a testing program which includes gymnastics, track feats, and agility. The facilities ofthe Boys' Physical Education Depart- ment have been given maximum use this year due to the large number of boys participating and be- cause national, state and local attention, being focused on individual development and accom- plishment. SANDRA ZIDE Modem Dance Archery Modern Dance Modern Dance Trim Gym Exercises, posture and activities that can be used after graduation are points of stress in the Girls' Physical Education Department. This included a posture contest in which all girls participated. Especially planned courses are taken by the freshman and sophomore girls. These include: basketball, volley ball, soft- ball, and speed-a-way. The iunior and senior girls have a choice of programs including tennis, modern dance, swimming, golf, and a combination of trim-gym and archery. The department also offers a modified course in physical educa- tion. Heading the department is Miss Lois Stevens. Early in the school year, .both faculty and students were 'J J saddened by the sudden and untimely death of Mr. Joseph Riasetto, head of the Science Department for the past eleven years. The position he held was capably filled by Mrs. Leesa Gregson. A wide range of scientific classes were offered in the department this year. These included: general science, life science, physiology, chemistry, physical science and physics. Some biology and chemistry classes were accel- erated . Period Zero, composed of chemistry and physics stu- dents, made as their immediate goals many contests and competitions for scholarships, while they also engaged in frequent trips to local aviation and atomic energy plants, as well as the annual trips to California Institute of Technology, Pomona College, and the University of Redlands. Two stu- dents from biology classes attended classes at the Los An- geles Museum of Natural History. New equipment in the department included a micro-projector, which will proiect live specimens on screen and thus aid in teaching about micro- scopic life. MRS.
