MR. MILLARD BOBBITT Industrial Arts has become an integral part of gen- eral education today. The increasing complexity of our modern society, mechanization, and automation make industrial arts experiences essential for all youth. Six hundred and ninety-two students, 36.67, of the R.H.S. student body, are enrolled in the Industrial Arts Department, which is designed and organized to enable students'to develop those understandings considered basic and fundamental to living' in a Space Age society. Mr. Millard Babbitt, head ofthe department, teaches mechanical drawing. Other courses offered are: Woodshop, Print Shop, Machine Shop, Crafts, and Photography. Department Head Mech. Z' Concentration is very important in all Math courses Subjects included in the mathematics program this year were the usual courses in lower math in addition to algebra, geometry, and advanced algebra for college prep students. Accelerated classes in geometry and algebra differed this year in that they started during the second se- mester, whereas last year they were held for two semesters. Advanced algebra, trig, and ln- troduction to College Math were again offered to advanced students, enabling them to gain valuable knowledge through an added learning tool - a calculator. This machine gives students practice in programming, a valuable skill in the use of electronic computing devises. Attending the annual math field day at Occidental College were interested students from trig and College Mcfh classes. Taking over as head ofthe Mathematics Depart- ment was Mr. Carter Dennis.
