and Cont st Marching Contest was an ex- citing event for us this year as feelings of nervousness and ex- citement filled all who participated. It took Weeks of hard, serious practice to learn and perfect the marching drills we were to use at contest, then came our one chance to give our best perfor- mance and make a good rating. From beginning to end, I can say that after we had performed, most of us felt confident that we had done a good job. But our mo- ment of truth would come when the ratings were finally announc- ed . . . After what seemed to be forever, the speaker announced, Roscoe, Division I and the Whole band shrieked with happiness over the rating. Our goal for First Division had been achieved.
