Gle-ner Gleaner: A collection of thoughts, ideas, memories, etc. An annual is much more than a bookg it is a family album of our high school years that captures us in times of happiness and in times of sorrow. Many years from now, we can look back on our years in high school with a smile or even with some regret for the things we could have done. A variety of emotions fills our teenage years: love, hope, anger, frustration, and misunderstanding are just a few. No one can say that we are 6 not living out our lives in high school with a certain lust and emotion that is unequaled to any other time of our lives. Many of us are anxious to leave Roscoe, and this is due mainly to our need to explore. We will all probably come back, for how can anyone really leave Roscoe? It is a part of our being and self-worth. This is a major compliment to R.H.S. Many thanks need to go to Roscoe for the help and sup- port in our lives. 1. Rebecca had problems trying to get her mum to stay on and her dress to stay up, while Gayla was frantically trying not to be the last one ready. Sharla was worried about her high heels sinking into the muddy ground and Lisa's white dress was sure to get muddy. Mums caused problems for others, too. Lorie, trying to curl her mum in- stead of her hair, burned it with a curl- ing iron. Jamie and Lorie worried all night about their dresses being alike. When the girls were finally ready, the guys weren't. Mark had locked his suit in the car. Coach Kennedy kept the football players in the dress- ing room until the last minute. Rebecca Cooper was crowned Band Sweetheart and Perry Leonard was Band Beau. Gayla May and Craig Raughton were selected as Football Sweetheart and Football Hero. 1. Congrats! 2. Could it be love? 3. On your mark, get set, go! 4. Mark found his suit. 5. Number what? 6. Wasn't this exciting! . n State This year at RHS the student body had many people to be proud of at the state level. Some of these people were entered in state competi- tion in their division. Leroy Morales went to state for the second time and placed second in the 2 Mile Run and the football team were state finalists. Craig Raughton and Greg Althof were members of the All- State football team and Britt Pieper was named Honorable Mention. Dino, this year's One Act Play, went to state and placed second. Cast member of Dino', that made the all-star cast was: Russell Cravey. Honorable Mention: Jamie Sasin and Laurie Owens. Mark Brasuell received the Samuel French Award for best actor in the state. , . 1 .. 1 l 4 l Rebecca Cooper - Shorthand if Shannon Neighbors, Rebecca Cooper, Laurie Owens, and Perry Leonard - State Bound an Susan Smith - Choral Rebecca Cooper l Mark Brasuell - Drama . we if L .- HJ X fc -654' Craig Raughton, Greg Althof, Britt Pieper - Football if :J Susan Smith sang a solo at state for the second time and Rebecca Cooper made it to Austin in Shorthand. The 1983 Seniors left for Corpus Christi at 3:00 o'clock in the morning. We stayed at the Villa del Sol con- dominiums. It was fun feeding the seagulls and wading in the ocean outside our rooms. We ate at Captain Boomers, which was an experience to get to eat on a boat, Catfish Charlie's, and at Black Diamond Oyster Bar. Padre Island was exciting. We rented surfboards and tried to conquer the Waves - the waves won. We learned that ocean swimming at night is dangerous - stingrays abound! On our return trip, we stopped off at the state track meet to see Leroy run. We have good memories of our senior trip and of RHS, and we have high hopes for our future. We intend to reach for the stars. Many have been working to go to Austria and par- ticipating in sports, drama, and band, as well as many other clubs and activities. This year has been exciting and fun. It has given them a chance to learn and grow together as a group and as in- dividuals. Most of all, it has prepared them for their big step into leadership their junior and senior years. 5 I fw-4, --is-fa-.-...,.,,, 51 WEE IIUUUCUEU M55 lUIfIfUI.'5I3Lij5 Tommy Williams, Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Loranc, Vice-President Matt Brasuell, President Dawn Colwell, Reporter I'Ann Brown, Social Chairman W , A fr A-Am,wAA2,- -u2,,Q,f-W,--'AAA A - K fx ,' 5 :A W -,,u:,,,,fM A, As ,.., AA ,A A, , ,A A ,,g, ,A , A AA fr,Q54:,A1A1, Aefffidfihcf - , -- , ' ' 'L' fr' Kfv,A-Rvws? Chosen for the 1983 Boys' State were Leroy Morales, Russell Cravey, Ruben Herrera, Russell Graham, and Rudy Guzman. In the month of April in 1982, Gayla May and Lisa Bird were chosen by the American Legion to go to Seguin to attend Girls' State. They spent two weeks in June to learn about Texas Government. Chosen as alternates were Rebecca Cooper and Susan Smith. This year Liz Daily and Sharla Nitz- che were chosen to attend the 1983 session. Chosen as alternates were Geriann Sanchez and Sally DeLoera. Girls' State 1983 Girls' State was an experience that we will always treasure. We were taught how our Texas govern- ment functions and had the oppor- tunity to participate in a mock government. We formed many lasting friendships with girls from all over Texas. This was an honor and we feel privileged to have been asked to participate in Girls' State. Lisa Bird Gayla May mm g M15 79 P lik 1. It helps one responsibility. Tryouts for the 1983-84 school year were ex- tremely hard. Many girls tried out for the impor- tant positions at Roscoe High School. They all worked hard and well together. With the talents shown during tryouts, we can clearly see that next year is going to be a great year. 110 grow and learn to accept sz., FT E . . 3,7 9 Q 'f '?fffZ 5' ' Ei-593: Q fi i ? They worked at getting the football players pepped up for each game, and they did this so well that during basketball season, the boys would help support the girls during their games by doing yells and showing lots of spirit. The girls began the year by atten- ding the high school cheerleaders' cheerleading camp, where they received the spirit award. They prepared pep-rallies, made run- through posters, and decorated halls to help build spirit in the whole elementary building. Qnfau Ei.
