CLASS PROPHECY As Mr. Beck is about to watch a rocket being launched at Cape Can- averal, Florida, he runs into Carol Ahlers. Carol explains to him that she is worried sick because of this rocket launching. She ex- plains that the chief pilot is her everlovin' husband, Elvis Presley. As you may, or may not, know he was a famed recording star of a few years ago. The public finally got tired of hearing him and now he is to be the first man in space. While they talk over old times who should come along but Mr. Ostdiek all dressed in white coveralls. He explains that he is in charge of firing the huge missile which is about to send the first man into’space. He also notifies us that if the test proves successful he will be permitted to be the second man in space. Strangely enough he was being followed by Carol Sailors who tells Mr. Beck’she is a secret police woman, and that she is working for the United States Government. They have sent her to follow Mr. Ostdiek as a precaution so he can't give away any vital information as he some- times did when he was giving tests way back when he was a teacher at R. H. S. As Carol goes on about her spying job, Judy Nelson bumps into Mr. Beck. He asks her why she is here and she replies that she is trying to get some new ideas for her department store which she has been run- ning now for three or four years. She explains that something like this rocket launching gives a person a very good influence toward out- lining something entirely new in the decoration of a huge department store. She exDlains that she already has a wonderful idea for turning the large pillars, which hold up the roof, into rocket ships, and then painting the floor to simulate the fire and smoke of a rocket when it takes off. Mr. Beck states that it is a wonderful idea and that it should really sell the customers on these new stores which are all glass with no windows, like hers. All of a sudden a shrill whistle is heard and a voice blares over the loud speaker. Rocket Number 123 560 is being fired. 'Whoomp Sput—Sput Whoomp'. It's fired,” says Judy N. As Judy hurries off to put her new ideas to work, she runs in to Deanna, who explains that she is in a terrible hurry because her husband didn't want her to even come to the test for he was afraid that she might get blown up. Her husband is very touchy about things like that she explains, because last three wives were lost that way. When asked by Mr. Beck what he does for a living, Deanna explains that he is a sharp shooter in Don Kinning's Super Circus. Mr. Beck asks where he is living and Deanna gives him directions to get to his home. Mr. Beck promises to look him up as soon as he takes Carol A. to her Cadillac which is parked a couple of blocks away.
