This is more than an activity, it is an important iob that must be done with great care and efficiency. Efficiency is also evident in Roosevelt's Debate Team which participated in many inter-high school debates. The general topics for discussion on this year's debates dealt with contemporary events. I f Approximately forty girls vvho aid the school Members of the Compass Committee write explanatory and informative articles on aspects of Roosevelt life. These articles are condensed into a small handbook, the Compass, which is used as a guide by students new to Roosevelt. One aspect of Roosevelt life is the P-TA Dances. P-TA Dance Committee plans the theme, the decorations, the entertainment, and the publicity for these bi-monthly dances held in the Eckstein gym. Groups Seek Horizons Roosevelt students collected over S400 tor The U. G. N. Drive. They also donated 8,000 cans of food Tor The Salvation Army, and while working on This Christmas proiect, all rolls participated in buying gifts for The Washington Children's Home. Social Service Committee directs These activities and others Through The roll rooms. Building Improvement and Ground Improvement Committees work Together To keep Roosevelt's interior and exterior Tree from litter. These Two committees sponsor a drive To make The students aware ofthe need for cleanliness at Roosevelt. Making The games more enioyable for The majority of students, The Boys' Usher Corps enforces gym and stadium rules which sTaTe that sTreeT shoes should not be used on The gym floors, That over-enthusiastic students should be controlled, and that unsportsman-like conduct must be curbed. Girls who pass out programs and escort people To Their seats aT The Christmas Concert, Senior Play and Drama Festival are members ofthe Girls' Usher Corps. Acting as hostesses, These girls perform a service which is honored by Torch as work credit.
