HE purpose of the Savings Society is to ,encourage every student
and faculty member to form the habit of thrift, rather than to have
a few deposit large amounts. A penny seems small when we deposit
it, but we will be surprised to see the amount it will be after a few years
of saving. p
Our new school savings system, handled by the Educational Thrift
Service, has proved to be a success. On November lst, 1923, our school
was chosen as a model school in banking. The number of depositors at
that time was 946. In March our school won the honor of being the
only high school in Minneapolis having 100 per cent of its student body
as depositors. A
It is interesting to know that from September to January the school
deposited s2,213.14. Other statistics would also show the encouraging
state of banking in the school.
We sincerely hope that the Roosevelt High School will retain its
HE "R Hops" are under the control of a faculty committee con-
sisting of lVIiss Crogan, chairman, Mrs. Nagel, Mr. Dennis, Miss
Curtis, and Miss Nelson, and of a student committee consisting of
Ruby Larson, Raymond Bergeson, and William Brennan.
The purpose of the dances is to create a spirit of fellowship and to
promote acquaintances among the students.
Several "R Hops" have been given. The last two were made par-
ticularly festive by programs, decorations, and special features. The
committees feel well rewarded for the work expended because of the
Sleasure which has been manifested by all those who have attended the
