Mr. Charles B. Barrett Principal Roosevelt High School is formally twenty-five years old. The first class graduated from the twelfth grade in 1932. The school began in l930 and was housed in what was then known as the Old Normal School. We remember these build- ings more recently as the old Stevenson Inter- mediate School on Lunalilo Street. Until September, 1939, grades 7 through 12 were accommodated here. Since 1939 we have had the more conventional three year high school. Roosevelt High School has always been known for its strong academic program. Large num- bers of graduates attend institutions of higher learning. At present, well over half of the grad- uates continue their formal education. This is far above the national average. lt is very important that we provide varied educational opportunities for our youth-those which meet their needs and the needs of the community. With this as our goal, we can be confident that Roosevelt High School will con- tinue to hold an important position in the edu- cational world of Hawaii. MZVHEM The Principal and the Teachers What makes Roosevelt tick? Who keeps order in our high-spirited, fast-growing school? The answer is, our teachers. The faculty gathers to- gether weekly to discuss the'current needs and problems of the many students-the programming and need for constant improvement weigh heavily upon their minds long after the 3 o'clock bell has rung. This forward- looking group is constantly busy devising new teach- ing methods, preparing lessops, correcting tests, and prodding wayward students. Besides their regular classwork, they have chaperoned our dances, counseled us, and sponsored our scholastic clubs. Vile have come to know them well as warm, cheer- ful friends, and as firm, astute teachers. The class counselors always provided up-to-date material on the nation's colleges and scholarships. They often had to call in students, via the pink pass, for neces- sary conferences. Their failure reminders succeeded in waking up some students. Xvherever we go, whatever we do, we are confident that we will be assets to the school and community be- cause our teachers have instilled in our minds the prin. ciples of good citizenship and right living.
