The seventh graders faced many new challenges and adventures in Iunior High: the work was harder and they were expected to act like adults and they were treated as such. They were excited about being around Iunior High and High School stu- dents and learning all they could from them. Of course the most remembered times will be the fun times when they threw paper wads, talked behind the teachers backs, threw chalk erasers, told jokes, and made new friends. After a unit of study on air- planes the students learned to form companies. The annual track meet, a fun event was held in May. Donna Walker, a student in Mrs. Brenneman's class made the A Honor Roll each grading period except one. That's quite a record for some- one to break. Students observed the gerbils and then wrote papers dealing with what they had learned. Other students studied about various plants and even planted a variety of vegeta- bles and flowers. This was an indoor garden, so all could learn how to care for them and watch their growth. The PAT Club enjoyed a patriotic program of songs and reading in january by this group of students. These sec- ond graders have been a help to their teachers by helping decorate the rooms. One youngster, jeff Webb, sold 600 boxes of candy during a candy sale and won a TV as a prize. He's what one could call a salesman. To round out an eventful year the classes visited the telephone company and from there went to the park for a picnic and games. A good time was had by all! Besides their academic learning projects, these pupils do some neat, fun things which also involve learning. During the year they vis- ited the Moody Planetarium where they were shown a program about the sky. They visited a fire station which besides being a learning experience, was great fun. During the Thanksgiving season the kin- dergarten students and 1st graders dressed as Pilgrims and Indians and ate together. Before Christmas they visited South Plains Mall to tell Santa Claus just what they wanted for Christmas. One memo- rable trip was a visit to the baby animal exhibit at the fair. Each Halloween the PAT sponsors a carnival with proceedings going to various needed areas of the school. This year the PAT had a Christmas Store set-up for the elementary students. The children were allowed to purchase gifts for a minimum price for whomever they chose. Another new venture of the PAT was to organize a newsletter which was sent to all the mones of the children. This provided a calendar of coming events, student composition, news, etc. The Booster Club sponsors various events during the year also. There are hog dog, ice cream and watermelon suppers for the football players at the first of the year. Also included in their activities are the concession stands, selling of shirts, and the All-Sports Banquet. This year, a bus was purchased especially for school trips by various teams and organizations. Certainly a big Thank You goes to both clubs for their outstanding work for the total school program. GRADUATION 171 Made It In the end I guess you could say we were always looking for something - looking in every way -looking for friends and new facesg we found those in our classes. Looking for a win in athletics and learning that winning isn't everything that countsg that what counts most is knowing you have done your best. Looking for the win in UIL for all who participated . . . and gaining this goal. We were always looking for guidance in some way or another and we found this in our faculty, who were patient and demanding for our sake. We learned that when we look hard enough and long enough for something, we will some day, somewhere find it. We did find it- at ROOSEVELT. GRADUATION sw 1 ,K y X, 5 - A tc! Qf I gf .
