Eagle Salufes Supf. Marvin Williams For 3 I Years Of Service FOR OVER a half century, 57 years, Supt. Marvin Williams has been in a schoolroom. But after this year, he will retire after 31 years' service here at Roosevelt. DURING HIS time here, he has helped Roosevelt grow from the 1936 , small, red-bricked building to a large, independent school it is today with some 1,200 students and '70 classroom teachers. He has been instrumental in getting about 8 building programs, which gave the plant an auditorium, cafeteria, high school, junior high, gymnasium, stadium, and this year a S380 , O00 cafeteria, administrative and nurse quarters, and home ec department. WHEN MR. WILLIAMS came here in 1943 as superintendent and coach, he had only 13 teachers and some 300 students. HE COACHED both boys' and girls' basketball from 1943-44 and girls' from 1943-65. in 16 years he had 14 district champions and two State Champions in 1965 and 1957 . He helped organize Texas High School Girls' Basketball Assn. and is a lifetime member. IN 1967 Mr. Williams was president of the American Basketball Assn. of School Administrators, and Texas Assn. of School Administrators. In 1946 he was president of Dist. IV Texas State Teachers Assn. Roosevelt PTA honored him as Teacher of the Year in 1968 for 25 years' service. From 1944-45 he was a board member of the Lubbock County Juvenile Assn. WHO'S WHO IN TEXAS and Who's Who in the South and Southwest are two high honors he has achieved. And his name is in Dictionary of International Biography. BORN IN Stonewall, Texas, in 1910 , Mr. Williams graduated from Girard High as valedictorian in 1928. He earned an AA degree from Randolph Iunior College at Cisco in 1930 and a BA degree from Texas Tech Receiving his master's degree at Tech in 1949 , he majored in education and history. HIS TEACHING career began at Jayton in 1932. He taught math and history. From 1932-39 he was Jayton's principal and boys' and girls' basketball coach. Then he was principal and boys' coach from 1939-41 at Krum High in Denton County. After this he served as principal and boys' and girls' basketball coach at Cotton Center High. 30 SIGN IFIES the end of a story in journalism, and Mr. Williams has gone an extra year for Roosevelt, and we will never forget all he has done .
