A o Eagleland experience new cafeteria, new administration offices, a new home ec nomics department, along with many new teachers, stu- dents, equipment, and courses. New Homemaking Department Focus Un The NEW Often we forget many of our blessings. As Americans we often take things for granted . The annual staff would like to remind and show you the new things around RHS . Each year new machines are used in the typing room. We have new students and teachers every year. This year we were really blessed with a new cafeteria , homemaking department, and administra- tive offices. Just last spring the elementary building was remod- eled . pg-su .s M . IO6 Elemenfary Eagle Salufes Supf. Marvin Williams For 3 I Years Of Service FOR OVER a half century, 57 years, Supt. Marvin Williams has been in a schoolroom. But after this year, he will retire after 31 years' service here at Roosevelt. DURING HIS time here, he has helped Roosevelt grow from the 1936 , small, red-bricked building to a large, independent school it is today with some 1,200 students and '70 classroom teachers. He has been instrumental in getting about 8 building programs, which gave the plant an auditorium, cafeteria, high school, junior high, gymnasium, stadium, and this year a S380 , O00 cafeteria, administrative and nurse quarters, and home ec department. WHEN MR. WILLIAMS came here in 1943 as superintendent and coach, he had only 13 teachers and some 300 students. HE COACHED both boys' and girls' basketball from 1943-44 and girls' from 1943-65. in 16 years he had 14 district champions and two State Champions in 1965 and 1957 . He helped organize Texas High School Girls' Basketball Assn. and is a lifetime member. IN 1967 Mr. Williams was president of the American Basketball Assn. of School Administrators, and Texas Assn. of School Administrators. In 1946 he was president of Dist. IV Texas State Teachers Assn. Roosevelt PTA honored him as Teacher of the Year in 1968 for 25 years' service. From 1944-45 he was a board member of the Lubbock County Juvenile Assn. WHO'S WHO IN TEXAS and Who's Who in the South and Southwest are two high honors he has achieved. And his name is in Dictionary of International Biography. BORN IN Stonewall, Texas, in 1910 , Mr. Williams graduated from Girard High as valedictorian in 1928. He earned an AA degree from Randolph Iunior College at Cisco in 1930 and a BA degree from Texas Tech Receiving his master's degree at Tech in 1949 , he majored in education and history. HIS TEACHING career began at Jayton in 1932. He taught math and history. From 1932-39 he was Jayton's principal and boys' and girls' basketball coach. Then he was principal and boys' coach from 1939-41 at Krum High in Denton County. After this he served as principal and boys' and girls' basketball coach at Cotton Center High. 30 SIGN IFIES the end of a story in journalism, and Mr. Williams has gone an extra year for Roosevelt, and we will never forget all he has done . ', 0 51 1 Woman, mother, teacher and along with all this a heart of gold , that's Mrs. Christine Husky. When you see her outside her door yelling, sit down and be quiet. She may seem like a very heartless person, but this is only because she takes her work very seriously . In her 13 years of teaching here, most of her students feel that she is mean to thern only when they do something wrong. The teachers give added attention to those students referred to them by regular classroom teachers. SELCO works with the Texas Rehabilitation Center. Slow learners are the students they give added attention to for one period a day. SELCO is a Co-op with Cooper, Slaton, and Southland. Faculty members included 6 new faces, in high school, 6 in junior high, and 3 in elementary. Total personnel included 15 members. Occasionally a young woman teacher would wear a long dress , but the new look was cuffed baggies . Favorite Eagles dresses casually in everything from Ievis to baggies and higher heels. The entire student body chose the Homecoming Queen after football boys nominated nine girls. NHS nominated the boys and girls of the month, and teachers decided the winners. The entire student body voted on Mr. and Miss RHS . Different methods of nominating and electing favorites were used for other titles . Green Hand FFA Quiz Team Green Hand Chapter Conducting Team all FFA sponsored a Donkey Basketball game this year, with a great I11IIl out. Of America The FFA chapter completed a very successful year by qualifying four teams in local and area competition to go on to state. The radio broadcasting team eamed a third place banner at the state contest. Also the poultry, land and livestock judging teams placed 9th, llth, and 25th at State. There were 950 chapters in Texas from which the competition comes. Roosevelt FFA members also made very good showings at the State Fair, El Paso, Houston, and the County Show in exhibiting livestock. Tony Thomas and Mike Patschke received awards at the FFA State convention in San Antonio for their outstanding leadership as officers. Also, this was the first year to have girls enrolled in Voc. Ag.
