In fllemoriam Mr. Richard R. Kyl Richard Kyl, for 16 years a Roosevelt teacher, was forced by illness to leave his school duties in November. He died December 9. During his stay on the Roosevelt faculty, Mr. Kyl gave to hundreds of young men, and many girls 1400, 8 rigorous, thorough training not only in mechanical drawing, but also in mental discipline. A perfectionist, he demanded no more of others than he was willing to give of himself. He saw his duty as that of training stu- dents to meet the demands of college studies, and those of life itself. His former students are ample proof of his success in both aims. Mr. Kyl was a person rich in talents and interests. He put his love of tools and fine craftsmanship to work in construction projects which included extensive remodeling of his own home. His skill was such that the leading home magazine called upon his services, and he became an associate and consultant in the completion of many of its articles. This journalistic experience he combined with his love of outdoor life and his keen sense of humor in his more recent literary eFforts, which included short story writing and a series of humorous cartoon ideas which had been favorably received by magazine editors. But first Richard Kyl was a teacher, strict and demanding when he thought it necessary, always warm and un- derstanding to those who wished to learn. From co-workers came the friendship and respect given to a skilled professional educatorg from his students came that regard reserved for those who lead young people to achieve their very best. He was a good teacher-he would have asked for no greater praise than this. 4
