The Hi-Y Club was organized at Roosevelt this yea Membership was open to all boys in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade. The officers of the club are: President: Charles Huddleston, Vice President: Gerald Gutekunst, Secretary: John Korte, Treasurer: Albert Karoub, and Chaplain James Poindexter. THE PURPOSE of the club is to create, maintain, and extend through the school and community, high standards of Christian character. THE FUNCTION is to help boys achieve a more Christian way of living by conserving and strengthening democratic trad itions---cooper- ating with other groups of young people to achieve these objectives. THE PLATFORM is clean ----- living, speech, athletics, and scholarship. On December Sth and 6th, Bill Gorlay was sent to the Hi-Y legislature at Lansing. The purpose of the legislature is to acquaint Hi-Y members with state government. They also sent john Korte, Albert Karoub, and Eugene Lewis to the United Nations in New York, to acquaint the boys with the work of the U. N. The Girls Athletic Association was sponsored this year by Mrs. Vanzo, Roosevelt's Gym instructor. The officers of the club are President: Willette Weber, Vice President: Nancy Battling, Secretary and Treasurer Bobbie Adams. The purpose of the club is to promote athletics, and earning a letter. The girls set up a point system to earn a letter. Each girl must earn 100 points to receive a letter. The 100 points must be earned by extra athletic activities. The poing captains are Shirley Snyder and Pat Fisher. During the past year the girls have had volley ball, basketball, and baseball tournaments.
