CONFERENCE PLAN vs. SPOON-FED WAY by Peggy Hudgings To substitute learning for instruction is the object of the plan of individualized education in practice at Rollins. The college, instead of promoting a group of spoon-fed students, wishes to insure its men and women of a well-rounded and complete life, which is open only to those who, possessing a liberal culture, are freed from the prejudices of partial knowledge. To encourage curi- osity and interest, to stimulate and to open new fields for study is the basis of the Conference Plan which has been successfully used in Rollins for 14 years. Individualized education is a term used to describe the very foundation on which the relation- ships at Rollins are built. There is no attempt made to drill a student in a specific skill, instead, he is given a chance, when he has fulfilled the basic requirements of mature knowledge, to select his major subject and to pursue the study of it.
