Business Physical Education An extensive business program was offered this year, taught by on exceptional business staff. A variety of courses for both personal and vocational skills were available. Personal skills were developed through Typing A, Computers in Business and Business Math, while vocational skills were taught through Advanced Typ- ing and Word Processing. With the ac- quisition of the latest in office equip- ment, students were stimulated and ready for their future careers in busi- ness. The Physical Education faculty of- fered a variety of courses to compli- ment a student ' s mental and aca- demic courses with a refreshing and re- creational break from the academic program. The instructors realized the continuing physical awareness of this generation and integrated these val- ues into the program. Head Counselor Lyie Heck waits for his next appointment while checking his calendar for the day Nurse Mary Chidsey Resource Specialist Marianne Dean Counseling Special Services This past year, the counseling statf met and overcame a number of challenges in providing excellent counseling and guidance to RH stu- dents. The goals of the staff included career guidance, improved communi- cation, and personal counseling. This year students could choose their own counselor, vyhich gave them the op- portunity to communicate v ith some- one they had confidence and trust in. Special services at RH provided help in the nurse ' s office, library, career cen- ter, study hall, resource office, and ac- tivities office. They aided students with reference materials, career counsel- ing, medical advice, and student ac- tivities. Mike Bettino Ruth Home English Written expression was once again emptnasized by the Eng- lish Department. In several of the required courses and electives of- fered, students were constantly read- ing and improving their reading and writing skills. Elective courses included forensics, journalism, creative writing, reading, mythology, and literature. In- teraction between teachers and stu- dents enriched the learning exper- ience. The veteran English staff warmly welcomed the addition of Elsa Cel- niker, Charlotte Brady, Harvey Crow, Tom Maeder, and Jim Maechling. It was another successful year as staff and students cooperated to establish on atmosphere of creativity and excel- lence. Department Chairman Garry Poe was honored this year as he was named Educator of the Year, a presti- gious award given by the Polos Verdes Chamber of Commerce.
