R were presented to the chool by 'Nlr Vt atson the representatrve of the VC omen s Relref Corps of the Lawton Yvarren Post G A R Beryl oslrn edrtor rn chref of the classbook took a two weeks trrp to Calrfornra where she had the honor of chrrstenrng the new destroyer Henley named for her great great uncle Captarn Robert Henley of the War of 1812 The senror class grrls and faculty of Rogers Hrgh School elected Anne Greene as the D A R representatrxe of the school One grrl rs elected rn each school rn the state on the followrng pornts dependabrlrty serxrce leadershrp and patrrotrsm One representatrye from each state rs to make a prlgrrmrge to Xvashrngton where she rs presented a Good CllllCUSllllJ Medal by the Daughters of the Amerrcan Revolutron Thrs year the lunch perrod schedule was changed from two twenty mrnute perrods to three perrods of hfteen mrnutes each lhrs change w as a vreat help rn relrexrng the congestron rn the lunch room that had resulted under the former schedule lwxeryone who knew hrm erther rn hrs prrvate or publrc capacrty mourned the passrng of Superrntendent Herbert W Lull rn anuary A wreath was sent and Pxesrdent Sayer represented the class at the funeral Future exents rnclude the annual unror Senror Prom whrch wrll be grven rn the sprrng by the class of 38 rn honor of the class of 37 Graduatron exercrses wrll be held rn the Assembly Hall on une 24 1937 For the hrst trme rn many years the entrre class wrll jorn rn the srngrng of two songs And so wrth the awardrng of diplomas by the Charrman of the School Commrttee our four year sojourn at Rogers wrll come to an end Ir rs hoped that thrs hrstory wrll rn later years help recall rn some measure the mrny pleasant trmes we haxe enjoyed here to erhe ' r D ' s ' I .' and wrth Charles Hazard and Rheta 'Nlartrn as Presrdent and Secretary respectrvely had a successful year defeatrng the freshmen by a vote of two to one rn competrtron for the cup offered by the Veterans of Forergn Vtfars Each sophomore home room had a representatrye on the Student Councrl The presrdent and vrce presrdent of each room also met and conferred wrth the Councrl Two dances were arranged by the Entertarnment Commrttee Xvhrle the frrst of these was somewhat of a farlure the second was yery successful ln the field of sports we contrnued the frne start we had made as freshmen placrng members of the class on the football baseball and other teams Members of the sophomore class who held office rn extra currrcular actrwrtres were Vrctor Delano Sports Edrtor of the Red and Black Rrchard Fullerton Presrdent of the Dramatrc Assocratron and Norman Chase Presrdent of the Bankrng Assocratron The Rogers Hrgh School Band was organrLed thrs year We are proud of the support our class has grven thrs worthy enterprrse Several changes took place rn the faculty Nlr Webber and Mrss Franklrn Headmaster and Dean of Crrls respectryely rcsrvned the yacancres berng frlled bv Mr ohnstone and Mrss Carr Vlr Walsh was elected Submaster Nlrss Phelan Head of the Latrn Department and 'Nlrss Pfannermrller Head of the Commercral Department The offrce w as changed from the second floor to the frrst The new ofhce s much larger and the clerks are able to do therr work more easrly wrthout so much rnterruptron We closed our sophomore year by electrng the class ofhcers for our junror year The successful candrdates were Presrdent Baldwrn Sayer Vrce Presrdent Marguerrte Brrc Secretary Beryl Crane Treasurer Douglas Allen Class Hrstorran Anne Crreene 1933 6 Our thrrd year at Rogers was every brt as rnterestrng as the hrst two Several dances were held all berng very well attended Owrng to thrs our class has the drstrnctron of havrnv the largest amount rn rts treasury of any class upon enterrng rts senror year Great credrt should be grven to the socral commrttee rn charge of the dances and to our faculty advrser Vlr O Brren Those on the commrttee were Clementrne Lallr Charrman Russell Barker Douglas Allen ohn DeRoy Srdney Rosenthal Baldwrn Sayer Nlarguerrte Brrc Al Nlrllrngton Patrrcra lkrrwrn Fred Kent Danrel Srmopoulos Ellen Hayes and Beryl Crane It was due prrncrpally to therr hard work that the dances proved to be so successful Thrs year a Rogers branch of the R O T C was organrzed wrth Mayor C-reene rn command A member of our class Frank Andrews was the wrnner of the R O T C Crtrzenshrp Medal and the Haryard Prrze for the outstandrng unror Urven for general character and contrrbutron to the school The class contrnued to be w ell represented rn all extra currrcular actrwrtres Frank Sarrrs Captarn of the w restlrng team won the Rhode Island champronshrp of the I55 lb c ass Early rn June our last class electron was held The students elected to act as class officers durrng our senror year were as followrng Presrdent Baldwrn Sayer Vrce Presrdent Anne Greene Secretary Vrrgrnra Hay Treasurer Srdney Rosenthal Co charrmen of the Socral Committee Kay Drrng and Raymond Patnode , . , , . , y , ' ' . , D Y ' Y Y I , . .
