Heady Harold The Defensive Backneld An important part of the Ludlowe success story this year was the inspired play of the offensive and defen- sive lines. Offensively, at guard, Bob Mattice was the only returning varsity lineman. Guard Rene Chenell, H-dlgw grads 7 center Bob Labbance, and tackles Dick Heady, Tom Glatzmeyer, and Craig Wargo completed a line that was small and inexperienced but that got the job done game after game. In his first complete year at tight end, Harold Stone added blocking strength as well as an able pass target. Complementing Stonels size was the speed of returning split end Dave Seres. Dave brought the big play scor- ing threat to the offense and came through for 10 touchdown passes. The actions of the defense speak for themselves. While the offense was scoring 42 points per game, the defense was holding the opposition to only 12. The line was small but quick enough to stop the sweep and hold their ground inside. They were backed up by co- captains Brown and Prendergast as linebackers and a quick-thinking secondary led by third-year starter Ben Jacobellis.

This year's 9-1 record and many similar records of the past are only part of the tribute that should be paid to Coach Taft. The rest can't be measured in wins and losses but rather inthe feeling that you've worked hard for him and you've been rewarded in the best possible way - victory. It is something to carry away from Ludlowe: the pride in yourself, in what you represent, and in everything you do. It is this spirit that caught on with the co-captains in the summer and captured the whole team during the season. It is this spirit which will remain for a long time.
