September. Halls that have echoed only the summer work- man's step once more echo the joyous sounds of youthful voices raised in. . . So goes the first pages of the high school annual in phrases the kinder critic would call almost poetic. What is lacking of those finer attributes of good literature is surely made up for by the obvious enthusiasm of the yearbook's staff of writers. But oh, the folly of it all! For who appreciates the hours spent staring at a typewriter when staring at a member of the opposite sex would be so much more enioyable? Who is to appreciate the hint of talent in the struggling writer's efforts? The truth must be faced. Who ever heard of reading a year- book? A yearbook is pictures to be looked at, faces to find in the crowd, margins to be filled with classmates' witty comments . . .but to read? Ridiculous. Temptation. In that desolate wasteland between the pictures almost there is a temptation to actually say something. Pictured above is Mr. Z., an able teacher whose exams may be avoided or postponed by an artful suggestion of the sub- iect of duck hunting. Or, Here is the Happy Day Club. Their meetings were marked by confusion and inactivity. Not long after the picture was taken the club died of natural causes. We may not yield to temptation. Then again, we may... 4
