An advocate of the lvy League Look, Mr. Burford is a new addition to River this year. A graduate of Cornell University and a former Air Force pilot, he is now work- ing on his doctorate at Western Reserve. He possesses an extensive library and extensive interests. He willingly shares both with his students. If enthusiasm for the subject is an aid to good teaching, then Miss Gray's classes are particularly blessed. Where is there an ex- student who can read or hear the name Robert Frost and not think of Miss Gray? Teaching sophomore and iunior English clas- ses, advising the Student Council, and supervising the hall monitoring system fill her day before driving aggressively back to her home onthe East Side. Miss Edith A. White Miss Dorothy Gray Mr. Robert K. Payne Mr. Edgar C. Burford Mr, Payne finds himself in surround- ings somewhat strange this year- room ll4. To add to the pleasantness of a new classroom, he and his Hi- Tide staff have a large room of their own in which they assemble the school paper late on Thursday nights. Pos- sibly the size of the room is part of an experiment to see if production of the Hi-Tide is possible outside the pre- viously used broom closet. Mr. Payne cultivates English, journalism, and ferns. Alrrright boys and girls and class begins in room lO6. A ten hour day is routine for Miss White for intercom brings her here early each morning and play practices keep her late in the evening, She also teaches English, mathematics, speech, directs the stage crew, and is ad- viser ofthe Neophyte-Thespian group. -. g L
