MZ , 7 . . The word build has a special significance this year for resi- dents of Rocky River. For months they watched with interest the progress of the construction of our senior high school build- ing. They can well be proud of the finished structure, an ultra- modern plant they have made possible for the children of the community. There is no finer edifice of its kind anywhere, we think. Comfortable and attractive surroundings are certainly to be desired, but they are, of course, only means to an end, as far as education is concerned. To build the intellect, to realize the gradual growth of the mental possibilities of the individual, is still the basis of education, we believe. This we endeavor to do in Rocky River High School. A highly developed mind, an intellect alerted to its greatest possibilities, is to be striven for by everyone who wishes ta make the most of his potentialities. But the growth of the social being is equally important. No life is a successful and a happy one which denies the importance of harmonious living with fel- low human beings. Our wide choice of extracurricular activi- ties and services in River High gives every student ample oppor- tunity to develop his social being. A sound mind in a sound body is as important today as it was in the days when Juvenal originated the truism. To help stu- dents develop a healthy body and a healthy outlook the curricu- lum at River includes classes in health and in sports of interest to all. Our intermural program of necessity includes relative- ly few of our athletes, but our intramural program embraces every student. The school is an integral part of the community. Every citi- zen, whether or not he has children in the school, should feel a personal interest in the educational processes, for the ade- quate training of youth is vital to society. We are proud of the fine relationship between our school and the community as a whole. I
