L In the fall all the books were sorted. Those that stood the test of usefulness were reshelved according to topics. As the year progressed, at least sixty books were patched up: an electric stilus was used to re-entitle these and to mark each of the more than 1,000 books with a code corresponding to its shelf: a label neatly printed by Edward Mosher was fastened to each shelf: all of the books were stamped Property of City of Rockland, . and pockets, cards. and Date Due slips were put in all books that needed them, the card catalog was done over again from scratch, using the backs of the old cards. Eighty-tive cloth-bound books were purchased: fifteen were received as donations. In order to augment the ex- isting collection with as many new titles as possible from very limited funds, more than 200 pocket-size books were bought. They made a colorful display. Most of the time half their number were in circu- lation. A five cent rental fee for two weeks made it possible to replace worn-out copies. In addition to the students in the picture. D. Merrill, W. Russell. A. Wright, V. Young, and the following teachers: Mrs. Gatcombe, Mrs. Pitts, and Mrs. Viik, helped re- activate library services. As school librarian. Mr. Hybels was in over-all charge. As a result, during the year 1951 such an organization was form- ed. The first meeting' was called for the purpose of electing oiiicers. They are as follows: Lawrence Hatch, President: Vharlotte Ilrackett, Vice-President: Mar- eia Lindquist, Treasurer: Ilea Reed. For- responding' Secretary: Varol Russell. Re- IICII S ASSOCIATION eording Secretary: Janet Stone. Histor- ian: Barbara Ilyonen, Librarian: Ellen Sulides and Pat Griffith, Parliamentar- iansg George Hooper, Song' Leader and t'hairman of Entertainment. Mr. Russell was quite cooperative by giving an opportunity to the members for practice teaching at the McLain Building during their free time. Success was the byword oi' the Tigers' llasketball season as they came through with a 10 and ii record in the regular sea- son and a tourney trip. At the tournament, for the first halt' they gave a highly favored Westbrook team a rough battle and were leading' 24 to 22 when the halt' time whistle sounded. Westbrook found the range in the second half to finish out 63 to 42. The high light ot' the regular season was a erushed defeat of favored Morse on their home eourt in the tinal game. Rock- land 46, Morse 335. The Tigers took a night off to play around with the alumni, winning 60-47. The Tigers are losing only three men from this year's line up. They are 'tJocko Johnson. Paul Sulides, eo-captains, and guard Chuck Robarts. The J.Y.'s ended their season with a 5-7 record, but they showed promise of a bright future for the Tiger teams. ll.-XSKli'I'l!.-Xl l. .l, V. New on the squad were Mandie Tootill, Maude Nelson and Sylvia Davis. Although the cheerleaders didn't have new uniforms they looked very colorful out in front of the stands. We had more rallies this year than pre- viously. Some of the best were before foot- ball games. The last football game of the season the senior boys got up and gave their farewell addresses which made the school feel rather glum.
