FOOTBALL The Rock Springs High School Tigers ended the 1942 season with high hopes for a most successful season in 1943, but fate dealt a hard blow to optimistic plans. The loss of Don Pettigrew, Ed Kruljac, Nick Pritza, Eddie Zueck, and Pete Mirich was keenly felt. These would-be seniors are now serving in the armed forces of our country. Jim Lawson, Keiji Okano, and Ted Peterson were the only three lettermen to return this season. Minor injuries The Tigers played their outstanding game against Cheyenne, only to have a victory slip through their grasp when the Indians caught a long pass and carried the ball over the goal line. This was the only touchdown made throughout the game. Coach Engstrom and Assistant Coach Melchar were untiring in their efforts to build a good team and to promote good sportsmanship and clean playing. This year nineteen boys received school sweaters. Most of these were absolutely new recruits. The team was the light¬ est major squad in the state. They also carried the least weight of any grid team that had ever defended the Tiger goal line. Although the Tigers’ record for the season was two games won, one game tied, and five games lost, we still feel a proud loyalty for our 1943 grid team. 32
