DELTA EPSILON ALPHA The Delta Epsilon Alpha is a. national high school honorary society for i public speaking. To be eligible one must have served his school in one or more of the following ways: as a member of the debate team, an orator, a. reader, or have taken the part of a major character in a, three or four act play. Two minor parts are also acceptable. The student must also have grades of. average or above. The purpose of this organization is to create greater interest and activity in public speaking. This year, 1930, Rock Springs High School established the first chapter of D. E. A. in Wyoming. This was done by Mr. Elliot, sponsor. Our D. E. A. has fourteen members, counting the sponsor. The officers are: Virginia Nelson, Presi- dent; Edward Perko, Vice-President, and Lavina Postal, Secretary and Treasurer. The D. E. A. dinner dance at Howards was one of the ouustanding social functions of the year. SENIOR ALUMNI DANCE One of the most delightful social events of the year was the Senior-Alumni Dance, held in the Masonic Temple Friday, January 3rd. The hall was beautifully decorated in the high school colors-orange and black. Diagonal streamers from each corner of the hall met under a large light in the center of the ceiling. From each light hoops covered with orange and black streamers were suspended, producing a misty effect. The orchestra stand and punch table were also arrayed in these colors. Dainty orange and black novelty drapes were hung at the many windows. A large, illuminated reproduction of the school seal was placed directly above the orchestra. stand. Music for the event was tur- nished by Herb Simpson's orchestra. There was a large attendance with many of the alumni present. Committee for the affair was as follows: Seniors-Miss Virginia Nelson, Miss Marian Chambers, Mr. Kenneth Buckley. Alumni-Miss Josephine Hay, Miss Beatrice Jack, Mr. George stnrhoun. $5

PEP PROMOTERS The Pep promoters were a group of Senior and Junior girls, whose purpose was, as the name signifies, to arouse enthusiasm, and support the teams by cheer- ing. .. They introduced a number of new yells at the games. The most outstand- ing stunt they pulled off was at the Rawlins game. The girls marched around the hall, forming the letters R. .S., and then formed the letter R. for Rawlins. The girls could be readily recognized by their outfits, a black dress With orange collar and cuffs and an orange beret. They carried orange pennants with black tigers in the corners. , The yell leaders were Vivian Moon and Blanche Coffey. Miss Templeton was sponsor. SENIOR PARTY The first Social affair of the season was the Senior party held in the gym on October 26. . The decorations were carried out on the Halloieen plan: Doughnuts and apple cider were refreshments, and in a dark corner one could see dark forms learning their fate from an old gypsy. . . . The Rawlins boys also attended the party and helped the crowd have a jolly time. PRESS CONVENTION The Sagebrusher was represented in the Annual Press Comrention at Lara- mie by Marie McLaughlin and Ruth Redshaw, editor in chief and business manager, respectively. The girls were guests of the Wyoming University while they visited Laramie. The convention having been held during Homecoming week our repre- sentatives were given plenty of entertainment. The purpose of the Editorial Con- vention is to criticize High School papers and to encourage better joui'neiism. The best papers in the state are chosen during this convention. 17
