The students of Rocky remembered the year of 79-80 with pride and pres¬ tige. We struggled from the beginning for some things, and others were taken with ease. We remembered being interrupted in class with the constant noise of install¬ ing the fire doors, halfway through the school year. We rushed to class, trying to get used to the new ' one tardy-one detention ' rule. As we slid into class seconds after the bell stopped ringing, only to run into the teacher holding the atten¬ dance sheet with a circle around our names, and a heart-warming smile, we were ready to turn in our books. The senior ' alarm clock ' trick brought excitement for awhile, but ended in disappointment when we were let out earlier than expected because of a faulty water main, on the day before Thanksgiving vacation. We were hit with new rules not only from our Principal, but from our Presi¬ dent. President Carter requested that all thermostats be set at 65, this brought shivers and a few blankets to school. Every senior will recall the confusion of their Homecoming, but they made the best of it, and had a good time anyway. The class of ' 80 experienced having the Homecoming dance at the Rock for the first year. This provided for a new at¬ mosphere. Rock Island High School is not just a part of history tut part of tomorrow. Throueh the years, Rocky has created individuals of pride. When anyone en¬ tered Rock Island High School, they at¬ tracted a gift of creativity, and hones¬ ty. 214 50 Years Of Pride
