Y-Teens Create Swirl Working with others, and trying to help those with problems was a goal of this year’s Y-Teens. Members, some who have belonged since sev¬ enth grade, worked in many activities such as Big Sister Little Sister programs, local tag days, and area Y conferences. Y-Teens also planned many recreational activities, with Volleyball gymnastics, and swimming among them. The highlight of the club’s year was the annual Sweetheart Swirl. By combining community work and leisure time, Rocky’s Y-Teens expressed their motto — “Y-Teen spirit, pep, and go. ” l . Chefs Create Luscious Concoctions Rocky’s Chefs and Jr. Chefs were students involved in the Co¬ op Ed program. By going to school half a day, and working the other half, they received their credits toward graduation. Chefs and Jr. Chefs were employed in various food establishments, such as fast food businesses or hospital kitchens. By working like this, Chefs and Jr. Chefs provided services for their community while helping themselves. 50 1. Herb LeMaster and Dave Maynard are Senior Chefs offi¬ cers. 2. “Patty cake, patty cake,” Teresa Yakovitch says to herself as she molds biscuits. 3. Ski, Ice Skating Club Explore Winter’s Joy Winter and snow mean beauty and fun for some, sloppiness and misery for others. Ice Skat¬ ing Club and Ski Club were two clubs that coin¬ cided with the beauty and fun aspect of the sea¬ son. Ice Skating Club, chartered in the fall by the senate, was a new club at Rocky. Members heard speakers, and saw movies that dealt with ice skating. They skated on various rinks throughout the Quad-Cities, and helped push for the indoor rink to be built in Rock Island. 1. For a Ski Club member, happiness is some well-fitting boots, new skis, and some nice, white snow. 2. Ice skating club officers Cindy Pippert and Sue Hanna look forward to a great winter on skates. 3.
