Munich Olympics Spark German Club ' s Interest To learn about another culture, in this case, even beyond the brothers Grimm, to a deeper appreciation of Germany, is the goal of German club. Headed by officers Beth Peterson, Ellen Eliason, Jan Beinke and Eric Carlson, German club boasts thirty active members. The club activities include: picnics, a Christmas party, food tasting parties, a presentation of slides taken in Germany, a trip to the Amana colonies and speakers who have lived in Germany. 1. French Play Is Written The twenty-four members of French Club participated in a wide range of activities this year. The highlight of a party during the holiday season was inventing French skits and present¬ ing them. They had a cookie trading party. To¬ gether with Spanish and German clubs they organized an International banquet where members of all clubs dined on foods represent¬ ing different countries. They also wrote an origi¬ nal French play. 7. A French Club member dreams of France. 2. President Earl McGinnis listens to a con¬ cerned member ' s problem. 3. Literary Club Works Toward Writing a Novel Literary Club gives creative high school au¬ thors and poets a chance to share their works. Meeting once a month, the members discuss their own literary attempts as well as those of published authors. One of their selections was Kurt Vonnegut ' s Slaughterhouse Five. Their goal is to publish and distribute a magazine of their own works. 1. Literary Club members are, LEFT TO RIGHT: Jana Beinke, Jon Jones, and Linda Snowden. 2. Literary Club discusses a member ' s poetic efforts. 3. Jeff Dennis brings about a point of symbolism contained in the book Slaughterhouse Five. 34 Literary Club
