Pan Am Explores Spanish Culture Pan Am members attempt to better understand our relationship with Spanish speaking people and countries through better educa¬ tion about them. The ap¬ proximately forty or fifty mem¬ bers have participated in a variety of activities including a slide pres¬ entation by Dr. Doreste from Au- gustana, a lecture from a hypno¬ tist, a pinata party, and an Interna¬ tional Banquet. They also raised money for " Our Little Brothers and Sisters " orphanage in Mexico. 1. Pan Am cabinet members are FIRST ROW: Sue Pells, Krista Lawhorn, Julie Brock- eft, Kris Brandt, Sheri Bla¬ de!, Cindy Pippert, and Linda Koester. SECOND ROW: Cheri Kay, Jane Ull- man, Berni Neff, and Gretchen Dismer. 2. Sue Koepplinger and Lori Neff model their favorite head- wear. 3. AFS Bridges The Gap Between Nations AFS at Rocky is an extension of the American Field Service International Scholarship program throughout the world. AFS promotes under¬ standing of self, sensitivity to those who are dif¬ ferent, and increased awareness of the forces that shape those differences. It brings together people who differ in important ways, yet have something valuable to share. Rocky hosts indi¬ viduals from Iceland and Australia. During the summer Rock Island shared its part of the U.S. with the Philippines. Founded in 1914 and con¬ stantly expanding, AFS is an experience in hu¬ man relationships. 7. At a typical AFS meeting, important decisions are made. 2. Cheryl France spent an ex¬ citing summer in the Philip¬ pines. 3. French Play Is Written The twenty-four members of French Club participated in a wide range of activities this year. The highlight of a party during the holiday season was inventing French skits and present¬ ing them. They had a cookie trading party. To¬ gether with Spanish and German clubs they organized an International banquet where members of all clubs dined on foods represent¬ ing different countries. They also wrote an origi¬ nal French play. 7. A French Club member dreams of France. 2. President Earl McGinnis listens to a con¬ cerned member ' s problem. 3.
