Students Achieve Writing Honors Those Rocky Students wishing to spend their time in the media of communication, at Rocky this in¬ cludes The Watchtower and The Crimson Crier, were eligible for the National Quill and Scroll Asso¬ ciation. These student spent many hours on writing, proofreading, pica counting and picture crop¬ ping to provide Rocky ' s popula¬ tion with news or nostalgia. Many began to acquire the background they need for future careers. To keep Rocky in touch with the outside world, Cheryl Beam, and Patti Hess served as weekly corre¬ spondents to the Times Democrat High School page. 1. Junior Rotarians Show Leadership Qualities Two young men each month , eighteen in all , are select¬ ed from Rocky ' s population on the basis of their achieve¬ ments, citizenship and leadership potential. These honored students are known as Junior Rotarians and are made honorary members of Rotary International. These distinguished young men attend the Rotary luncheon every Tuesday during the month in which they are selected. 1. Richard Hudson enjoys delicious fare at a Tuesday Rotary luncheon. 2. Eight Students Receive Leadership Recognition Special honors are one aspect of school life that for the most part have not been affected by any major change. The D.A.R. award is given by the Daughters of the American Revolution to a senior girl for outstanding citizenship. Leader¬ ship and responsibility are traits of the Girls and Boys State representatives. A select group of junior Marshalls were honored by leading the graduating class of ' 72. 1. Don Cochran, Debbie Chappell, Rhonda Wisely, and Dan Williams lead the way for the seniors as 1972 Jr. Marshalls. 2. DAR award winner for 1972-1973 is Susie Brooks. 3. Girls and Boys State representatives are Dave VanSevern, Joan Schmitz, and Don Cochran. Honors 23
