These Teachers Mean Business The goal of the Business Department is to meet the needs of students who plan to pursue office or business ca¬ reers. Clerical, secretarial, ac¬ counting, bookkeeping, and retailing courses achieve this goal. The department is also tentatively planning a full year ninth grade typing course for high school credit. Biology Field Expands R.I. ' s Science Department strives to meet the needs of the environmental call. Sixty five stu¬ dents enrolled in field biology and four classes of environmental biology illustrate this need. According to Mr. Goodwin: " The environmen¬ tal biology program is a good one because it gives the student a chance to get out into his environment. With today ' s emphasis on ecolo¬ gy, it is very relevant to the student ' s needs. " In an era of change, R.l. takes its place in working toward preservation of the environment. Skills and Attitudes Are Emphasized in Learning According to Miss Mary Cocks, " The Home Economics Department ' s emphasis is on atti¬ tudes, knowledge and skills related to the role of the HomemakerA new curriculum of 22 classes as opposed to a previous 15 makes up the Home Ec. Dept, for this year. One full time teacher and one part time teacher have also been added to the staff. Home Ec. Courses pre¬ pare students for future domestic life.
