Poise and Ability Are Combined Nearing that extreme known as perfection with every kick and stroke is the goal of every girl active in the Dol- phinettes. Try-outs were held to deter¬ mine those girls with the most poten¬ tial. Swimm ers, freshmen through se¬ niors, are tested for their grace, poise, and ability. Required stunts include the kip, somer-sub, and dolphin. Try-outs are tense and tiring, but produce the best in swim teams. The team immediately begins weekly practices, preparing for the Dolphi- nette’s night of glory when they present their annual swim show. One month before production nights, March 16-18, practices began daily at 7 a.m. and last¬ ed until 6 p.m. Emphasis was placed on synchronization, grace, and poise. The show involved seventh grade through senior girls and junior and senior boys. Such hard work was rewarded by a cast party held afterwards. TOP: Tracy Mitchell gets things un¬ derway at the first practice of Dolphi- nettes. CENTER: A captivated audi¬ ence awaits instructions. RIGHT: Heading up the Dolphinettes for this year are Trac Mitchell, President: Chris Evans, Vice-President; Linda Snowden, Secretary; and C indy Ma¬ son, Treasurer. 58

Teen Democrats Rally for Elections Young Democrats differ in their gov¬ ernment head — they are led by a cabi¬ net, in contrast with the usual executive set-up. The donkey party aims to support the national Democratic Party. It is an or¬ ganization offering aid to the candidate of their party ' s choice. This may include bumper stickers, passing out pamphlets, stuffing leaflets, or pledging aid to na¬ tional, state, or area candidates as in pre¬ vious years. Perhaps lacking in organization, the Democrats are overflowing with enthusi¬ asm and are anxiously looking forward to the coming elections. ABOVE LEFT: Lynn Foley makes plans for a great new year. ABOVE RIGHT: Lori Leatherman agrees with some of the views discussed at a meeting. BOTTOM RIGHT: The new Democratic line-up for 1971-72 is Doug Humphrey Cas¬ ey Stengel. Lori Leatherman, Ken Slivken. Lynn Foley, Jody Rudd, and Peter Soderburg. 60
