R. I. Golfers Win Quad-City Metro Last spring. Rocky enjoyed what was undoubtedly the finest golf team in the history of competitive Rock Island High School golf. The team of Tom Blakely, Ted Stone, Doug Elliott, Reed Carlson, and Marty Davis was respon¬ sible for an undefeated season in the Quad-City Metropolitan Conference, a second place finish in the Western Big Six Tournament, a fourth place finish in the prestigious Quincy Invitational Tournament, a second place finish at the District, a first place finish in the first sectional in golf, a thirteenth place finish at state, and the establishment of no fewer than thirty-two high school and conference records. Having lost all five members of last season ' s championship team through graduation. Coach Dave Wood began to rebuild this fall around freshman Dave Stone, junior Tim Montgomery, and seniors Scott Schroder, Gary Carl¬ son, Mark Rice and Jim Bjork . After a disappointing fifth place finish in the fall conference, the Rocks look forward to overcoming their inexperience and becoming a championship threat in the spring.
