Interrupted by a loss to Moline the team won six more. After winning two more and receiving four losses the Rocks ended the season right with a 79 —66 win over Davenport Central to make their season record 15 wins and 6 losses. Coach Riley led the Rocks as head Coach for the 70-71 season. Bruce Hamming, 6 ' 9 " center, scored 386 points for a career total of over 1000. Coach Frank Youngquist leads the Little Rocks. Throughout the season Frank Boyd and Ike Turner showed unusual prowess in the sport. The Pebbles took their opener against Assumption 53—36, but pro¬ ceeded to let the following two games slip by them. Davenport West was an easy mark for the Pebbles as they won that con¬ test by a 55—48 margin. The next four meetings proved disheartening for Rock Is¬ land, but, after barely letting Davenport Central get away 62—61, the Pebbles lashed out and won 52—50 over Rockford West and 59—46 against Assumption. Eight losses before an 86—79 win over Davenport Central ended the season. The season clincher was unquestionably the Little Rocks ' finest hour. Boyd scored a season record by accumulating 32 points in that encounter. Starting line-ups shifted throughout the Pebbles ' uneasy but at the close of the year, the emerging starters ap¬ peared as Tim Allison and Frank Boyd as guards. Ike Turner was a consistant starting center. Playing frequently in the Rock Is¬ land front court were Robert Hill and Norm Albritton. The Pebbles finished the season with experience for next year.
