Dramatics Club creates its own reality " those who should be asleep, are asleep, those who should be dead, are dead " . . . the familiar, thousand-times- recited lines, repeated this time for the audience that sits in the darkness beyond the blinding footlights, the nerv¬ ous aches, kissing other cast members for luck before the curtain goes up. " if you will not let me marry a man of my own choosing " . . . gazing at the greasepainted stranger in the makeup mirror, listen¬ ing intently to the silence that hangs heavy as the red velvet curtain forty-five minutes before the show, " pier rot, a macaroon, i cannot live with¬ out a macaroon " . . . breath¬ ing as a person who exists has existed, only on the bare planks of the stage, bearing borrowed emotions, wearing a borrowed identity, part of a fantasy, on stage, acting, re¬ gaining a sense of self only when it is all over, when fac¬ ing that slapping sound which signifies appreciation, praise, which, like a slap, brings red to the cheeks, wet to the eyes, on stage, acting, alive in another world, " they get weaned away from the earth, that ' s what i say " . . . the drama department. Dramatics Club officers J. C. Bevill, Marie Carson, and Vicki Enburg add their names to the actor ' s hall of fame. 50

Mark is always equipped with pearls of wisdom at the lit club discussions. Thought provoking questions are a major part of every Literary club meeting. Invigorating discussions spark Lit Club for i will consider the liter¬ ary club, for the literary club is a place to exercise mind and emotions, and if i write of love, despair, sorrow, joy, and if i write a poem, the others will listen and try to understand, and, if i read a book which speaks to me of great ideas, of feelings, then i may speak to the others of it, and exchange impressions with them, for the literary club is for sharing. Officers Debbie Bunch, Peggy Bull and Dan Murphy search for this month ' s se lection. 49
