The Rocks are FIRST ROW: Jack Pagett, Hal Sackfield, Mike Lincoln, Bruce Walker, Rick Bevans. SECOND ROW: Tom Smithson, Dave Berg, John Bloom, Barry Barnes, Dan Burkhead, Dave Heinz, Tom Minick, and Jack Lund. Rocks bat 2 —0 to capture tournament crown Jim Seeley: Assistant Coach The Varsity Baseball team, under the direction of Carl Aronson and assisted by Jim Seeley, completed the 1969 season successfully by winning the District baseball tournament held at East Moline. The Rocks won the tournament crown by defeating the favored Moline team 2—0. This game was highlighted by the strong pitch¬ ing performance turned in by Rick Bevans who also drove in win¬ ning runs for the Rocks. In the championship, sophomore Bruce Walker led the Rocks to a come-from-behind victory over East Moline 5—4 in extra innings. Walker drove in 3 runs by setting two hits at the plate. Using almost all underclassmen the Rocks were led at various times by Ezel Turner, Rick Bevans, Hal Sackfield, Barry Barnes, John Bloom, Mike Lincoln, Bruce Walker, Dan Burkhead, Dave Berg, Chuck McDowell, Tom Minick, Jack Pagett, Jack Lund, and Dan Taylor. The Rocks ended their season by losing in the regional tourna¬ ment at Galesburg. 106

New coach heads girls ' golf team. Mary Campagna skillfully swings. Representing Rocky ' s Golf team are Becky Nachbaeer, Joan DeBarr, Debbie Stone, Mary Campagna, Nancy Knanishu, Susie Strutz, Mary Westmoreland, and Carlene Bingaman. The 1970 Girls ' Golf team was coached by Mr. Hinton. The girls practiced long and hard three times a week at the Black Hawk Driving Range. Each Monday the team played in competition matches with six girls on each team. The five low scores were tallied to de¬ termine the winner. The golf¬ ers ' home course was Indian Bluff. To help strengthen the team three major letter win¬ ners returned. They were Deb¬ bie Stone, Susie Strutz, and Mary Campagna. Throughout the season the team displayed the results of hard practice and devotion. Paul Eagle shows the girls the funda¬ mentals of golf. Carlene Bingaman practices for the tournament. 105
