Underclassmen Naturalize Net Expectations From LEFT TO RIGHT: Tom Conrad, Dave Heimbeck, DeArmond Briggs, Tom LaDage, John Mordhorst, Bot Hotle. Coach Bob Motz’s 1966 version of his Fall Tennis team was no different than those of past years here. For the ninth consecutive year the Rocky netmen claimed the Quad- City title by posting a perfect 8-0 dual meet record. All five members of the var¬ sity squad secured perfect individual rec¬ ords in singles. Sophomore, DeArmond Briggs, held the number one position al¬ most all season being followed by John Mordhorst, junior, who filled the number two slot. The other members of the varsity; seniors, Dave Heimbeck, Tom LeDage, and Tom Conrad battled weekly for the other three positions. Bob Hotle, Bill Martin, and Duane Stevens were outstanding performers for the junior varsity. The Rocks were edged out by Moline in the Quad-City tournament. The margin of victory was only a quarter of a point al¬ though DeArmond Briggs captured the singles title. John Mordhorst, who competed in singles, and the doubles team of Dave Heimbeck and Tom LaDage brought home a third in their respective divisions. The spring edition of the 1966 tennis team was only one step from perfection in dual meet competition, losing only to Dixon.
