SECOND ROW: Brad Schamp, Peter Beckman, Howard Lundeen, head coach; Bill Todd, Glenn Hunter. The Rocks captured the Quad City and Mississippi Valley Confer¬ ence Fall Track Meets while maintaining a near-perfect record of 7-1. Coach Lundeen then turned toward the Cross Country title. Seniors Rich Hansen, Jerry Boxman, Mark Pealstrom and Don Rhode came on strong to lead the Rocks to a perfect 6-0 dual meet record. Rocky gained the Quad City, Mississippi Valley, and Dis¬ trict Cross Country crowns, and in the state meet placed 12th in a field of 30 teams. The backs, led by left half-back Charles Atkins, and quarterback Cliff Nice showed fine form. However, because of a small line it was diffi¬ cult to get holes open consistently. Defensively the deep backs were good, and Jim Purcell was outstanding as an end. The team finished in a tie for 5th in the Mississippi Valley Conference and 2nd in the Quad City Conference.
