The Rock Island High School tennis team proved successful competitors. Last spring they won the Mississippi Valley Conference title, and they placed fifth in the state meet. Last fall the Rocks won the Quad-City title. The only loss for Rock Island was to East Moline and it was the first loss suffered by the Netsters since the Conference was established. The play for the Rocks was highlighted by seniors Gene Utke and Neal Peterson and junior Jim Johnson. These boys formed the heart of Coach Motz’s winning squad. Now the Rocks are looking forward eagerly to spring in anticipation of continuing their supremacy over the MVC. TENNIS 207
