ROCKY ' S DELEGATION CHEERS TEAMS Leading one of the busiest clubs at school are the Pep Club officers, Ruth Coffin, Vice-President; Pat Clark, President; Linda Soyke, Treasurer; and Ann Morrison, Secretary. “Thunder, thunder, thunderation! We are Rocky’s delegation. When we yell with determination, We create a great sensation!” Pep Club is certainly Rocky’s delegation. Wearing white blouses and red and gold beanies, members cheer Rocky’s teams to victory from their own section at every home game. The Rock Island School student body has a governing system much like that of United States. Homerooms elect senators who attend the Senate meeting every Thurs¬ day as representatives of the students and their ideas. During these meetings, com¬ plaints and opinions of students are voiced, discussed, and acted upon. Thus the Senate is the basis from which school policies are determined. The Senate as a body supports fund¬ raising drives, chooses sophomore and var¬ sity cheerleaders, and sponsors a special project. The Senate through committees controls the student lounge, operates pop machines, plans assembly programs, and sends delegates to Quint-City Student Con¬ gress meetings. Through these programs, the student Senate aptly controls student- directed business. The Senate, led by Mike Gersick, President; Ann Morrison, Secretary; and Bob Klingebiel, Vice- President, strives to create better understanding and spirit among students and faculty. STUDENTS A VOICE IN SCHOOL AFFAIRS c Deciding next year’s assemblies is the job of the Senate Assembly-Planning Committee. Members are, Seated: A1 Morgan, Peggy Dover, Ginny Cale, and Mike VanDine. Standing: Ken McNerny and Jim Teros. 163 SENATE

Aside from cheering at games, the Pep Club meets monthly to hear discussions of sports by their respective coaches, to practice new and old cheers under the leadership of the cheerleaders, and to discuss methods of boosting school spirit and sportsmanship. It is Pep Club’s firm belief that a team is only as good as the support it gets, and it is the club’s aim to give it all of the spark it needs. PEP CLUB 165
