Hanson Superintendent of Rock Island Public Schools The past year has been an es¬ pecially active and progressive one for the Rock Island Board of Edu¬ cation. Besides performing its re¬ gular duties, such as maintaining buildings and ordering textbooks, it assumed the additional task of supporting a $2,800,000 school bond issue, the largest one ever passed in the city’s history. It is of special importance to Rocky High since $1,800,000 of the total amount has been designated to finance an en¬ largement of the high school. Rock Island citizens can be justly proud of ther excellent school sys¬ tem which results from the con¬ stant efforts of their active super¬ intendent and the Board of Edu¬ cation. board of education 18

Keeping the Wheels of Education Moving “Here’s an announcement just slipped under the door.” This comment, familiar to all Rocky students, is frequently voiced over the public address system to all senates by Charles O. Austin, Jr., as he makes the daily announcements. This is just one of his many and varied duties, as Mr. Austin is responsible for the organization, supervision, and ad¬ ministration of the school.
