■- v 1 |if  n-i ROBINILLO ROBINSON HIGH SCHOOL ROBINSON, ILLINOIS ■CONTENTS FEATURES 5 FACULTY 21 Happiness lies in the consciousness we have of it, and by no means the way the future keeps its promises. GEORGE SAND HAPPINESS IS . ACTIVITIES CLASSES 93 JJ] All that could never be said All that could never be done Wait for us at last Somewhere back of the sun. SARA TEASDALE We the ROBINILLO staff of 1970 dedicate this yearbook to the nriemory of Douglas C. Miller, who passed away on Dec. 21, 1969. A close friend described Doug in the following way, He was a real likeable person with a mind of his own. Everyone that knew Doug could agree he had an outstanding personality. Sports were among Doug ' s major interests, especially baseball. It was a familiar sight for the residents of Robinson to see Doug as an enthusiastic shortstop on the school team and various other community baseball teams. A FEATURES :: . SENIORS PRESENT UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE The Senior Class of 1970 presented Up the Down Stair- case. The play, under the supervision of Mrs. Katherine Caraway, was a complete suc- cess. The part of Miss Barrett, who was a young, idealistic schoolteacher teaching school in a big city, was portrayed by Lynn Driscoll. The story of this English teacher and her problems with both student and faculty members touched its audience close to the heart. Student Director J. BULLA JUNIORS PRESENT CRUCIBLE The Crucible proved to be an exciting and unusual type of entertainment for those who attended. It was a drama that involved the Salem witch hunt. Many innocent towns- people were condemned because Abigail Williams, portray- ed by Teresa Gallo, was in love with John Proctor, portray- ed by Mike Davis, who failed to return her love; thus stay- ing faithful to his wife Elizabeth, played by Mary Crebs. Her revenge was so powerful that many, including John Proctor, were killed. The fiery trials were presided over by a very narrow-minded judge. Deputy Governor Danforth who was portrayed by Joe Comer. This year ' s play was directed by Mr. Larry McCoy with Jan Bulla acting as student director. The Junior Class Play proved to be an outstanding performance by the class of 71 . p SUSAN DELLACCA BRIDGET ROADS SUSAN MARTIN MARSHA McCRACKEN CARNIVAL KANDYPINKSTAFF CECILIA RIKER JANA WHITE COURT FEBRUARY 25, 1970 AT R.H.S Philip Miller, Barbie Ferrel, and Jan Bulla presented songs in the lyceum which were composed by themselves and several others which were popular at that time. The Robinson High School Dance Band under the direction of Mr. Richard Shoulders gave an excellent performance at the lyceum. Dave Bowman and his back-up band astonish- ed the students with singing of such songs as The Impossible Dream and Mountain Dew. -( GARY KOONTZ LYNN DRISCOLL JOHN WARD KANDYPINKSTAFF SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS II SHOULDERS DIRECTS SOUTH PACIFIC PEP CLUB 13 PLANNING WORKING SUCCESS iOSii: . 3 ff Patty Pope, Mike McSchooler; Linda Lindsey, Garry Smith; Cathy McCarty, Joe Trimble; Queen Joan Hedges, Dave Love; Sarah Mallie, Ricl y Parham; Linda Keith, John Ward; Kandy Pinkstaff, Mike irvin. i M i T - tjz.d:tr. k. 15 GRADUATION DAY FACE THE COMING CHANGE II y .;ft S.A.R. Throughout the span of the 1969-1970 school year, the board, under the direction of Mr. J. M. Imlay, president, discussed and decided upon many issues concerning the schools in the Unit No. 2 sys- tem. Discussion and action was taken concerning the transportation issue and several committees were appoint- ed throughout the year to visit area schools in order to check the seating capacity of the classrooms. The main concern of the board is for the benefit of the students at- tending Unit No. 2 schools. DONA. BAILEY RALPH LOVE ROBERT WHITMER ROYMIDGETT SUPERINTENDENT We can once again commend Mr. Clyde Corn for his strenuous efforts and hard work as superintendent of Community Unit School District No. 2. Mr. Corn ' s job in- cludes the supervising of the four schools in this district, these being Robinson, Porterville, Flat Rock, and New Hebron, and the employing of the many people in the school ' s management. This is Mr. Corn ' s fourth year as superintendent as he has been here since 1966. Before coming to Robinson, Mr. Corn was employed at other Il- linois schools and at one time acted as superintendent of the West Frankfurt schools. MR. CLYDE CORN MRS. OURS SCORES The final call of the Fighting Maroons win-loss record this year was 5-3-1 . The team was again led by tri-captains. This year ' s stur- dy leaders being Irvin, Morrow, and Smith. The Marrons began the season with four con- secutive wins sending school spirit soaring. Robinson pulled an early upset against Law- renceville, defeating the Indians by a score of 13-12; a feat that hasn ' t been accomplish- ed since 1961. The Maroons then won the Robinson Newton Shrine Game for the sec- ond year and became beneficiaries of the magnificent trophy donated by the Shriners. Coach Higgins looks with optimism for the 1970 season because of his 23 returning let- termen. The Fresh-Soph team, who went un- defeated during this season will prove to be a valuable asset to next year ' s varsity team. LARRY SMITH DWIGHT MORROW R.H.S. OPP. Led by runner Bill Miller, who established twelve new course re- cords during the year, the squad finished 15th at the Mattoon Invitational and 3rd In the district. With four lettermen graduating, coach Jim Fox will have to work extra hard with the boys to keep up with the phenome- nal pace that the past two teams have set. They made money by having concessions at a basketball game. As a service to the school, the club members supervised the seating of people in the reserved sec- tion at the basketball games. All members enjoyed the many activities of the club and the use of the R Room. Why, Pep Club, of course. Members were required to attend a certain number of games. The use of confetti at football games was something new this year. At the Pep Club ' s booth one could buy candy apples. The club was a help in boosting the team ' s spirit. THIS WILL NEVER BE AGAIN i f.W A TYPICAL? DAY AT RHS SPLASHDOWN . . . Many of the members of the graduating class of 1970 feel that our graduation is the splashdown. It is true. We have completed a long, significant voyage. But this voyage is only the first stage of a much larger project. We have completed one voyage only to begin a much more difficult one, consisting of two stages. These are learning and living. Whether we further our education formally makes little difference. We will continue to learn. This brings us to the third stage of living — applying what we know to what we do. Yes, we are leaving on a new voyage into space. We do not know where we are going, or what we will find when we arrive, but we do know that graduation is just like the . . . BLAST OFF! 1 113 JUNIORS OF R.H.S. Leading the Class of ' 71 in their third year of high school life were the following: Jim King, vice-presi- dent; Beth Baker, secretary; Ric Battershell, president; Karen Dedrick, treasurer. As usual, the members of the Jun- ior Class were kept busy throughout the year with an assortment of activ- ities. Highlighting these activities was the prom, set as a reproduction of the lost city, Atlantis. Candy sales and the Junior Cake Walk at the Car- nival helped finance the event, along with the Junior Class Play THE CRU- CIBLE by Arthur Miller. Selection of a class ring was also high on the list of important events of the year. Perhaps the most exciting happening for one young lady in particular, was the selection of devilish Miss Bridget Roads as Harvest Festival Queen At- ' tendant. To add to their funds, the energetic sophomores managed a Food Store , and Pie Throw at the Harvest Festival. Spring found them selling assorted candy too. One of the highlights of the year was the selection of prom servers. Those chosen for this honor were able to observe the prom in progress and gather information for the difficult task of preparing for their own prom. All in all, it was an outstanding and memora- ble year for the peppy class of ' 72 ' . Serving as leaders of the Sophomore Class were Jana White, Diane Evans, Jim Lansbery, and Kathy Iknayan. We are peppy, We are free. We ' re the Class of 73! The above was the cry of the students who found themselves plunged into the first exciting year of high school life. Freshman activities for the 1969-70 year, started out with a Fresh- man Faculty Dart Throw for the school car- nival. They later had concessions at the foot- ball games. It was a rewarding year for the freshmen even though many of them had dif- ficulty adjusting to seventy minute classes. This year ' s Freshman class was led by: Linda Waddell, Tonja Parker, Susan Moore, and Lori Slier. On the eighth grade level, the players had a win-loss record of 5-10. They participated in a tournament, and ran into some hard luck early, getting beat by Old Union, who later went on to the state finals. The seventh graders, meanwhile, finished with a more respectable record of 8-8. In a seventh grade tournament played here in Robinson, they vanquished all foes in fin- ishing first. Mr. Muston, head of Junior High Basket- ball, realizes the potential and expects even a better performance next year. 142 TRACK ON THE RUN Robinson Junior High Tracl season officially got under way on Monday, March 16, when the boys were issued their equipment and began training. Forty boys were on the jun- ior high squads this year with 22 in the Class A and 18 Class B members. The team participated in sev- en dual and eight triangular meets this season, plus the county, dis- trict and if qualified to the sec- tional and state. A CHANGE OF REPERTOIRE E. Fisler A. Fleek J.
