Past CO Commander Philip W. Vvehrman, USN Commander Philip VV. Wehrman entered the Navy as a Midshipman in the NROTC Program at Brown University. In January 1953, he re- ceived his commission as Ensign and was or- dered to the U.S.S. SAMUEL B. ROBERTS lDD-8237. After completing his tour in the ROBERTS, Commander Wehrman served on ComDesl.ant's Staff and later as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. COURSER CMSCO-67. lt was during this period that Commander Wehrman augmented from the Naval Reserve into the Regular Navy. l-le sub- sequently commanded the U.S.S. RUFF lMSCO- 547 and the U.S.S. NAVAJO lATA-2lll. l-le then received 14 months at the Navy's Post Graduate School at Anacostia, Washington, prior to his assignment as Assistant Naval Attache Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro was followed by a tour of duty as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. SARS- FIELD lDDu837l, where he qualified for com- mand of destroyers. Commander Wehrman has also served in Viet Nam with the J2 section of the Military Assistance Command Viet Nam Staff and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for his performance. Prior to taking command of the Robert H. McCARD lDD'822l Commander Vvehrman had served as the Executive Officer of the U.S.S. SYLVANIA fAFS-27 which was homepnrted in Naples, ITBIY- Commancler Wehrman is married to the former Conslanc e Ruth Gibson of Madison, COD- nec.tic,ut. lhr-y have three children, William, Holly, and Gibson, and are presently residing in Charleston, South Carolina He will be BS- signed to Vvasliiniiton, l'J, Cf. for duty.
