LTJG G.A. Williams Communications Officer ENS G.A. Pittman Admlnlstrattve Asst. Assistant Navllitor QC Division OC, as a division of the Operations Department, is an integral part of MC CARD's fighting team. It is com- posed of Quartermasters, Radlomen, Slgnalmen, Yeomen, Hospital Corpsmen, and Postal Clerk. The Quartermasters aided ln safely navigating the MC- CARD through more than 60,000 mlles of water tncludlng the Atlantic and Paclflc Oceans, the Caribbean, Philip- pine, and South Chlna Seas, the Gulf of Tonkln and the Panama Canal. The Radlomen handled the greatly increased message traffic tn the manner that gained continual praise.MC- CARD's equipment was always up and often called upon to relay lnformatlon between other ships having radio difficulties. The Slgnalmen, responstble for all the visual communl- catlon and ldentlflcatlon, did an outstanding job. While ln the Gulf of Tonltln the majority of the shlp's maneuvers were executed by flashing light, demanding constant vigilance and alertness. The Yeomen kept MC CARD in clam waters ln the ad- ministrative aspects of the deployment by staying abreast of the many and frequent changes in control and pro- cedure. The Hospital Corpsmen handled all medicalsltuattons from minor cases of sea sickness to severe cuts and broken bones ln a professional and efficient manner. The Postal Clerk ls probably the most popular man on the ship by nature of his position. The several tons of mall he sorted and distributed helped keep high morale both abroadud at home. SMl P.
