The days here at Lee Now must go in our past, For now we must face A wild world changing fast. CHORUS NVith us the mem'ries of Lee we will takeg Our Alma Mater we'll never forsake. XVe'll love thee forever, our dear R. E. Leeg True Alumni we'll always be. The days seem to pass And the moments to Hee, But as we go on VVelll remember our dear Lee. On our Classmates, cheeks Are those little hot tears, Caused by the thought of leaving A school so dear. CLASS POEM : BY: Dewey Gassett The class of V18 must now say adieu, To the faculty, principal, and the superintendent, too. The time has come for us to part, dear Lee, My! how the time has flown since Freshmen were we. To the classmates we love and from whom we must part VVe say farewell with a heavy heart. XVe thank our teachers who have been so kind, And have done what they could when' we got behind. To the principal and superintendent our thanks belong, For the many days they helped us along. Luck to you, Juniors l Your time has come, To take over our posts and enjoy the fun. Take up the work we had only started, An-d do it well when we have parted. ,Tis strange that as we say our last goodbyes, The tears seem slowly to dim our eyes. The R. E. Lee that we know so well, VVill always in our mem'ries dwell. 4131 1' N l v K' i 'xx ffl? -, Q I ff UUUU U E 601690 Here Comes the Senior Classy .X 5 5 1 ' X 67 wg WCQSQ l X K' U , . C612 OUR COACHES TO COACHES RICHARDS AND MITCHAM GOES OUR GRATEFUL APPRECIATION FOR A JOB WELL DONE COACH J. E. RICHARDS COACH E. C. MITCHAM WE HAVE WRECKED OL' GRIFFIN HIGH! Bring out the bunting and the striped flags! Lee has beaten Griffin, and we still hear Rebel voices raised in the chant of victory, We have wrecked ol' Griffin High! The mighty Gold Wave was stopped cold in its tracks on the night of November 27, 1947, as a Rebel team that couldn't be content without winning that game made the gridiron sizzle. The Lee line was supreme, equaled only by the Lee backfield. In the opening quarter of the game, Griffin fumbled and the Rebels recovered the ball on the Gold Waves' thirty- five yard line. The Rebels then tried a pass, but the ball was intercepted. On the next play, Griffin tried a pass, but it failed. Then a scoring threat was stopped by Brown. On the same pla'y, Lee's offensive center, Turner, was hurt. The second and third quarters were uneventful in that no score was made by either team. With just a few remaining minutes of the last quarter, the Gold Wavers were able to c1'ash through to pay dirt, to make the score seven to nothing. Then, right out the blue, Reese broke through the Griffin line and got away into the clear for a seventy-six yard run to a touchdown. The extra point was good, and the score became seven to seven. A few plays later, a Griffin punt was blockedg and in a very few plays, Lee was at Griffin'sVtwo-yard line. In two tries, Cald- well was able to buck the line for the winning score. Then, Radcliffe passed to Caldwell for the extra point, making the score fourteen to seven. MANAGERS Dale Kelly and Billy Mitcham f 62 J A Summary oi The i947 Football Season The highlight of the 1947 football season came on the night of November 27 when Lee beat Griffin to the tune of 14-7. However, the rest of the season was by no means a dull one. In the first game of the season, with Fulton High of Atlanta, the Fightin' Rebels triumphed, 20-6. Next, the Lee Gridders traveled to Cedartown, only to be beaten, 8-7. The Rebels put up a good fight, and made a good showing by holding the score down to this low tide. 'Way, 'way out in Belzoni, Mississippi, Lee won again, this time 7-0. This was a heartening victory for the Rebels, for it was an uncertain game. Back home again, Lee played host to Fitzgerald, and was beaten, 34-O. The season was getting to be a varied one, and crowds packed the stadium much more than in the previous year when the Rebels were winning at the first of the season. The next game was with Americus, and Lee's star, Radcliffe, was just beginning to turn the tide of events for the Rebels. Americus suffered a 20-0 defeat at the hands of the Rebels. Finally, the much-awaited day was here-the Rockmart game! Many were appre- hensive, to say the least, about this game, but the Rebels, although they suffered a series of heart-rending bad breaks, managed to keep the score to a 0-O dead-lock. At that time, many said that this point was the peak of the Rebels' ability, but no one could foresee the outcome of that game with Griffin. Next, Lee triumphed over Athens, 39-7. The next game, with Baker Village of Columbus, resulted in a Rebel defeat. The Baker team Won over the Rebels, 13.0. The rest of the story is now deeply carved on the pages of history. Is there a Rebel in Georgia who doesn't know that on November 27, Lee beat Griffin, 14-7? - During the season as a whole, there were many stars who contributed equally to the success of the season. But all will agree that in the line, Garcia was superb, in the backfield, Radcliffe, Reese, Weaver, Caldwell, and Garrett. These are just the superl- atifes, but there is not room on several pages to list the names of all those who played the game well, and deserve a great deal of credit. To ever'y football player, from the star to the water boy, goes a salute from all of us. 6633 GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM First row: Martha Smith, Nelle VVebb, Sylvia Reeves, June Black, Rachel Kennedy, Alternate Captain, Doris Hogan, Betty Radcliffe, Bobby Moore, Johnnie Kinsler, Cap- tain. After the game there was much celebration, but the Griifin team didn't join in the festivities. Wonder why. I don't suppose losing a chance at the championship had anything to do with it. P.S.-When Bo Turner got hurt, a cer- tain cheerleader was very unhappy. So was Bo's sister.
