In the Language Department many Leeites begin study- ing the intricate structures of foreign languages. Under the direction of Miss Jo Hestand, the department gives instruc- tion in Spanish, French, Latin and German. Latin, the basis of the romantic languages, reveals to students the cultures of an ancient age. German, in its second year at Lee, offers students a chance to study the culture and language of modern Germany. Because more advanced courses are offered in Spanish 'and French, students taking these languages are able to study the literature, as well as the customs and cultures of Spanish and French speaking countries.
