I LET THERE BE MUSIC over the land where we were born, over the land where toilers lift up their hands to God, where man's faith has grown strong and tall, where each man feels a part of a brotherhood. LET THERE BE MUSIC from the blue skies, to the fruited plains-over a peaceful land where man lives for mankind. LET THERE BE MUSIC through these hallowed halls where we dwell. Let music so inspire our deed that we may live to serve and glorify our God . . . music that soothes the savage breast . . . . music-the gateway to the beauty of knowledge. The 1959 SCABBARD presents its theme. L41 0 I1 IIT Q 0 .. . . --llnlAikl'liL1l 7 f fl - -1-tat -'IJ Ilannmuu -4- s1'AI fl 11.311411 l1Y11Dl1nl-' '1. Good Citizenship Girl, for there are so many traits that this individual must possess. Among these traits are dependability, leadership, honesty, and sin- cerity. We at Lee know that these qualifications could fit only one senior girl, Judy Brantley, D.A. R. Good Citizenship Girl for 1959. Judy's never ceasing work and her ability to carry out many responsibilities bestowed upon her have made her well respected by both the faculty and students. In her senior year Judy was elected a favorite and was presented in the VVho's Who. Interest- ed in the school publications, she served on the business staff of the Stars and Bars and was as! sistant editor and art editor on the Scabbard staff. Judy was a prominent figure in Girls' State in i958 and also served as a Senator at Youth Legislature. ln her senior year she acted as vice president of the Student Council and serv- ed as president of the lnterclub Council. A very outstanding trait of the Good Citizenship Girl is the high scholastic record she must hold, and this requirement Judy fulfilled very well as she was a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Con- test. Judy Brantley well deserves the title of D.A.R. Good Citizenship Girl. l2001 Select Gull Beautl es .... Far in the front of the deadly fight, High o'er the brave in the cause of Right Its stainless sheen, like a beacon light, Led us to Victory. Out of its scabbard, where, full long, It slumbered peacefully, Roused from its rest by the battle's song, Shielding the feeble, smiting the strong, Guarding the fight, avenging the wrong, Gleamed the sword of Lee. Out of its scabbard! Never hand Waved sword from stain as free, Nor purer sword led braver band, Nor braver bled for a brighter land, Nor brighter land had a cause so grand Nor a cause a chief like Lee!
