Regional 'hampions In the opening game with Lubbock, Lee had all sorts of trouble. The Plainsmen capitalized on Lee errors with their jackrabbit speed on the base paths to beat the Rebels 4-3. lt was 4-0 going into the last inning. Bucky Kimble launched the rally followed by Lance Kitchens, Kenny Iastrow, and Jack I-Ianksg three runs were scored, but this was not enough to win. This first loss did not come close to stopping the Rebels. They came back to pack up two wins over Monterey, 10-5 and 10-5, because the Rebels knew they were the best team and proved it. The Rebels had 20 runs on 24 hits, 11 of which were for extra bases. Lee won the first of the two by stepping out to a 5-1 lead after three innings. When Monterey rallied for 3 runs in the fifth to trim the margin to 5-4, the Rebels simply came back with another 4-run burst to sew-it-up. The nightcap remained undecided until the Reb fifth when a 6-run burst ripped the top off the contest. Kenny jastrow was the one who started the rally when he hit a three-run homer in the fifth, After this sweep the mighty Rebels were bound for State at Austin. .I - l A ,fi-, ' 1 .Jess -1.12sx3?. . i Bidistrict Champions The Lee Rebels were wondering how long this night baseball had been going on after collecting 17 hits for a 12-2 victory over El Paso Austin. Led by Jack Hanks and Terry Schreiner, who had three hits each, every Rebel who batted collected at least one hit in the Massacre. The determined Rebs then came home to dispose of El Paso 9-1. Dwayne Casbeer hit a home run in the second inning, and in the sixth Kenny jas- trow hit a home run over the left field fence. These two wins led the Rebels to the Regional Playoffs with Lubbock. Bucky Kimble connects the ball for one of the nine hits gained in the second game with Austin.
